I agree. I think the phrase Chinese Sherlock Holmes really fits here. Dee is a wonderful character with supreme intelligence and almost superhuman reasoning skills combined with that aloofness and eccentricity. Plus he really feels like the Robert Downey Jr. version, as both can fight.
I think sometimes Chinese and Asian movies don't get a fair shake in the West due to perhaps outdated notions of the cinema. But from Hard Boiled, to Infernal Affairs, to Red Cliffs, to Dee, there are plenty of works that I think can really be enjoyed in the West.
