Not As Bad as All the TROLLS are Suggesting

You will only tolerate this film if you have a passion for found footage films, otherwise you will hate it. But, I was really surprised at how much I liked this one. It isn’t because its good or different, it’s basically a ripoff of Paranormal Activity, BUT this film does something very cool that I really appreciated. It had little to no slow parts. It moved incredibly fast like a music video. This actually connected really well with my A.D.D and short attention span. It had tons of scenes of scary things happening, back-to-back consistently. Most were often silly, but this film was obviously done on non-existent budget, so I’m impressed by what they accomplished with what they had. Again, let me point out that there are a ton of holes in the story, there isn’t a lot of originality, the ending is a HOT MESS and the acting is pretty amateur, but it doesn’t change the fact that this is a decently done found footage horror film that I found to be very satisfying. I love, love, love found footage style films and have seen, just about all of them. Most FF films are awful, but ‘The Bell Witch Haunting’ is not one of them. Surprisingly, a very enjoyable and entertaining film for the FF enthusiasts.

i have to disagree with you. I too love found footage movies, yet this is a terrible terrible one. firstly since claiming to love found footage movies makes you an expert, let me say that i love found footage movies.
apart from ripping off paranormal acitivity (too a blatantly obvious extent)
thi movie starts off by showing us a "bimbo" as the heros sister, which at some point turns into the hero herself. so as previous poster mentiond, for having no budget, this movie has terrible camerawork (there is such a thing as too much shakiness) acting, plot, and characters. i watched this movie almost all the way hrough on double speed while skippig parts that were just ridiculous' due to my adhd. (like the witch posessing the dauthr and hovering near he table - that was way way too long a sequence for such a shoddy effect, or the sheet in the air for about a minute!?!) if you dont have a budget, special effects should be limited to flashes on screen with tight shots, so that you cant see how bad they are.
moving to the actual "found footage". if you make a movie of this type, you should not put in shots that are abviously not from actual cameras not in the scene. (like folowing the flashlight. is that supposed to be mounted with a camera???)
i found the movie predictable, and silly (the father insisting on staying in the house mumbling - it gonna be ok....) and generally a waste of my time. i love found footage movies!!!
p.s. adding scantilly clothed chicks and a couple of breasts really made the movie a much more upscale picture. kutos to the production for such a nuanced attempt...

watch at own risk.

Sorry but no. I love found footage movies and this was full of classless, trashy ilk with an unbelievable storyline.

Why don't you admit you're just giving them props for the sexist comments and full frontal nudity? At least be honest.

reply

I'm 30 minutes into the movie and am enjoying it so far.....

reply

agreed... I am about 45 minutes into the move and I don't think it's bad at all. There are some continuity issues and the acting is average, but it is watchable and interesting, at least. I have seen worse...it's really not too bad so far.

Well, I hate to chime in with the exact same as the two posts above mine but, yes, I, too am a little ways into watching, "The Bell Witch Haunting", and I, too must say that thus far its enjoyable..

Now.. before the trolls(or just the downright rude people, who have nothing better to do than to rant&rave at post, after post, after post here, on imbd, that just happen to express a different or opposing view/opinion of a movie than what they have).. Before they start chiming in.. Let me be clear, I am not even attempting to say this movie is awesome and/or scary, nor that it belongs on a list of top horror films of the last year..lol.. I'm not even suggesting anything of the sort, but rather that its an extremely low budget, B horror flick that falls within the sub-genre of Found Footage ..

And IMO, that's exactly where the problem lies in the above detailed points regarding this movie, are found to be altogether unlikeable, detestable, and/or intolerable by some horror fans.. Fine, to each their own, but what is straight up nonsensical, yet repeated, repeated, and repeated even more by this group of people is the fact that they continue to watch/view these exact movies that they already know(and more importantly repeatedly let people here know they detest these type films)...yet, as I said, they continue watching them and continue ranting&raving at any horror fan who dares to comment with a positive, rather than negative opinion..or God forbid have the audacity to say they enjoyed one of these flicks..lol..

I mean really its just down right ridiculous.. Ya hate these type films.. Utterly detest them and find them worthless, and bitch AND moan about the hour+ that you lost from your precious life EVERY TIME you view such a $hit film... Yet ya continue..

Oh well.. The point is this little horror flick genre of "B movies" ain't going anywhere.. Its been around since way before you all who so hate em', yet loyally watch em, were even born.. its a niche that's always, and will always be around.. There are many of us who enjoy them for exactly what they are, low budget, B-horror flicks!.. We are not ignorant, stupid people who believe this genre of films are underrated, Oscar worthy gems..lol.. We enjoy them for EXACTLY WHAT THEY ARE AND NOTHING MORE..

Soo...Fine, hate em all you'd like, but for f^cks sake quit wasting your precious lives away continuing to spend endless hours watching something you so very much detest.. Or hell, at the very least quit stalking down and ranting&raving at people that happen to have a different opinion than yours.

I have never seen a post more loaded with double standards than your post. The OP came out of nowhere attacking people who do not like this movie and calling them trolls. He was in no way provoked into this and everyone was respectful back, yet they are the trolls.

First off, people need to stop complaining about people coming onto IMDB and "ranting and raving" about movies. That's what message boards are for. If it bugs you, stop posting and reading them since no one needs to change to make you happy.

Second, don't insult people for having nothing better to than post about movies, because Einstein, you're doing it too. The people who do not like this movie have not come to this thread to attack the OP or yourself for having a difference of opinion. The people responded to the OP were polite. The OP and YOU, however are attacking the people that do not like this film simply because they have a different opinion than you. The OP and yourself are accusing others of doing the very thing the both of you are doing.

Third, you obviously don't bother reading the other posts because several of the people who do not like this movie have said they are big fans of the found footage genre. They, and I, did not like this movie due to its weak plot. You don't seem to understand anything about what is going on. You say "to each their own" but continue to insult people.

I mean really its just down right ridiculous.. Ya hate these type films.. Utterly detest them and find them worthless, and bitch AND moan about the hour+ that you lost from your precious life EVERY TIME you view such a $hit film... Yet ya continue..

You're right, you are downright ridiculous. We do not hate found footage films. We simply did not like this one and both you and the OP attacked us for having a different opinion than yours. So obviously you are allowed to attack people who have a different opinion than you, but they are not. Bit of a double standard there.

Second, how the hell do you know how much time any of us spend watching movies and posting about them. The only person bitching and moaning is you. You are also putting words in our mouths because not one of us have said a damn thing about "utterly destesting" these types of movies.

However, since you attacked first I will attack second. You need to grow up and stop being a cry baby. Even though we did not criticize you, if you cannot take criticism you might as well stay in your parents' basement because you obviously won't be able to make it in the real world.

I really dont believe people who say they are halfway through a movie and have the time and patience to defend it on a public forum without even watching it fully.

Juts tell me.. why did you leave it in between and came to imdb, searched this particular thread and stsrted commenting?

reply

Yeah the first half is fairly interesting and watchable. However after 45 minutes it becomes completely horrible and gets steadily worse until the ridiculous ending. Also why anybody would have footage of half of this rot is just beyond belief.

reply

It wasn't an incredibly terrible movie. What annoyed me was the complete lack of plot. Even if you make the claim that something is "based on true events" you need to have a frame for those events. This movie was just a collection of events strung together.

To each his own, I just had to say that this FF movie was an exercise in utter stupidity.

If that makes me a troll then I have three goats to sell you.

Thanks, but I already tend about 20 of the smelly things. For the record, though, I don't think that people who dislike the movie and post about it are necessarily trolls.

There were some flaws to the film, such as the beating-to-death-with-camera part. The electrician scene felt a little out of whack too. But still, I give it a 8/10. Because the acting was genuine. That right away leads me to believe the storyline is actually happening right here in front of me. Example: Scene where father is being possessed poolside, I could visually see him being taken over. So that's worth some merit. The editing was well done, I thought. It ended with what it kept eluding to, which I felt satisfying. The creators sought to achieve something, and I feel they obtained it. The possession scene was filmed very well, I thought, and I kept checking for any mistakes while watching it. All in all, I liked this one, and think the trolls just want something to spit on, so this one was easy pickings. That's just not fair.

The draw for the viewer of an FF movie is how will the persons in the story begin responding to what they have caught on camera, if not more so to the events as they happen. So, In what world do the people in this movie live in where they record these things and never look at them? Not even after things intensify?

One moment something crazy has happened and is also caught on camera, the next they are laughing and interacting like it never happened?????

Sorry but there is no way around that at all.

The editing and FX were actually pretty good. I agree on that point. The acting was only bad in that how could the actors themselves not question the jumps in logic from scene to scene.

If you loved this movie then live and let live & to each his own.

I LOVE horror movies but a found footage movie has to truly special for me to be able to tolerate it. This is at the low end of the spectrum, far from special. I don't even understand how anyone has the motivation to keep filming a mess like this. I need alot better quality cast too. Any movie that can't take the time to capitalize the cops name from take to take is pathetic. Sometimes it said "Officer Bungalon" and sometimes it said "Officer bungalon" on his chest cam to go along with all the other mistakes people have pointed out. I only know if I was making a movie I'd be trying so hard to pay attention to the details and can't respect such a sloppy careless effort.

A troll by the way, isn't someone who has a negative view about something you like, a troll is someone who's posting just to see who they can irritate for fun. Alot of you don't seem to understand that.
