When people go to see romantic movies, they like to be reassured about their vision of love. They want to experience that warm feeling of love: meet a very attractive guy/girl, discover that they are soul mates, discover the greatness & beauty of love, & if the script allows for it, get married with a promise of a happily ever after.

This movie was marketed as that kind of movie (with a live-in relationship gimmick).
Instead of reassuring them of their concept of love, the movie actually destroys it (or "disagrees with it" if you prefer a mellower term). Also, the philosophies about relationships that the movie talks about, people either couldn't identify with it, or disagreed with it (sometimes even thinking of them as immoral), or just plain didn't understand it. Hence, they did not feel anything while watching the movie. If they did, it was mostly anger, or annoyance, or at least confusion.
Hence, the low rating.

Personally, I loved the movie. Thought it was hilarious. And, could also identify with the philosophies.

Seek to understand, not judge.

Even I am disappointed with this rating. To be honest, I loved every bit of the film...the visuals, the music, the crazy plot and the characters. I think people did not quite find 'SDR' acceptable to their standards of romance. They are only satisfied with 'Aashiqui 2' and so on...

This is a great film, every bit enjoyable...I loved it...Deserves at least 8...
