There were some truly great moments in this show that made me feel like like i did while watching the Larry Sanders Show. Hopefully it gets picked up and it can continue in that direction. Really enjoyed seeing Billy and Gad each week.
In Billy Crystal's appearance on the Larry Sanders talk show, in season 1, when they were talking during the commercial break, Billy is mad at Larry for not mentioning his latest movie but instead making old SNL references, and Larry says, "are you kidding, you're doing great. You're Billy *beep* Crystal."
In The Comedians, there's a scene where Josh Gad gets invited to Billy's house, and they are in the trophy room with a Mickey Mantle jersey on the wall and other baseball memorabilia. Josh says to him, "do you ever just sit in this room and say, 'I'm Billy *beep* Crystal.' "
Larry Sanders was the ground breaking show that made possible Curb Your Enthusiasm and Louis. The Comedians was a nice try but a pale imitation, despite the talents of Billy and others.
