Height difference

Are identical twins usually exactly the same height? If yes, could the height difference between Sam and Anais be due to diet or some other factor?

reply

Could be a number of things but we have very close family friends, identical twin girls, now 27, and one is taller than the other by about an inch. It seems her legs are about an inch longer.

The general answer is "identical" only applies to DNA. Even then, growing up in the same environment, eating all the same foods, it is common that their heights and other features show some differences.

In one case I met identical twins at a party in Cleveland, you would never guess they were identical twins. One developed a childhood illness that bypassed the other and they grew up to look quite different in size and posture.

Then there are conjoined twins, almost always identical twins where the embryo didn't split correctly, and some of them are quite different.

So the factors that affect whether identical twins grow up to be physically identical are many and unpredictable.
