are they "mirror image" identical twins?

First I want to say I find this documentary film fascinating, not only because of the subject but also because Sam (one of the twins) did such a good job with the writing, directing, and editing. It is very heartwarming to see how these great young ladies found each other and now are enjoying a sisterhood they didn't even know they had until 2013.

DNA testing confirmed what we all suspected from the start, that they are identical twins. However many don't realize that there are two types of identical twins, one type being mirror image twins. After seeing this film and studying many still frame shots of them together I believe Sam and Anais are mirror image twins.

This is a good article explaining: http://www.twin-pregnancy-and-beyond.com/mirror-twins.html

If you look closely at images of Sam and Anais you will see such things as parting their hair on opposite sides of center and their faces slightly non-symmetrical on opposite sides. (We all have non-symmetrical faces, that's just the way it works!) Plus when they were tested at the clinic one was found to be more creative and less demonstrative (Anais) which would be consistent with favoring right-brain preferences. Sam, who then would favor left-brain activities certainly demonstrates this by being able to organize, write, and direct this film, and in general showing herself to be somewhat less emotional.

So, even though they grew up in quite different "nurture" environments they as young adults are remarkably alike, more alike than different, and I believe that they are mirror image twins which would account for most of the slight differences we see.

We happen to have mirror image identical twins in our extended family and they remind me very much of Anais and Sam, being very much alike in many aspects, but also being very different in others, all the while loving each other totally and unconditionally as identical sisters most often do.

They don't part their hair on opposite sides, they just choose to part it at different places.

Their hair is super straight, and they can part it just about anywhere. There's no cowlick involved. Not to say they aren't mirror twins, but I think you're seeing what you want to see here.

I'm looking forward to seeing this documentary. My Father in Law is a mirror image identical twin, and my niece's are 100% identical twins. Thankfully they were not separated from each other.
