Sick Milan.

Why did Milan, a middle-aged man go up to Alice, a sixteen year old girl and say “I want to make you come.”, and start stroking her between her legs whilst ordering her in a cold tone of voice to keep her eyes open?

Was it because he wanted to treat her with love and affection and make her feel happy, excited, worthwhile, wanted and uplifted or because he wanted to treat her with contempt and make her feel unhappy, shocked, worthless, debased and degraded?

Why would an adult male want to treat a female with contempt and make her feel unhappy, shocked, worthless, debased and degraded?

Would it be because he felt worthless, debased and degraded himself at the thought that whereas he found her extremely desirable and attractive she didn’t return the compliment, and that he felt overwhelmed with humiliation, envy and resentment as a result?

Study a real-life example, Donald Trump, and you may get your answer. Of course it is aberrant behavior, why does anyone behave that way. Like the Australian man in the news currently, having tortured and abused his young daughter for 15 years, often with the help of her mother.

Are you really not aware that such people exist?

How do you think Milan felt about Alice? Did he want to provide pleasure or inflict pain?

I didn't know that people like Milan exist. I thought that males who sexually assault females did it to obtain sexual excitement, but Milan appeared to obtain none, but was cold and distant.

How do we know she's 16? I only saw the movie once but don't recall a clear mention of any age except the girl being 29 in the present. I also wasn't clear on whether the young girl actually lived in NY in the past or, like so many who work in NYC, if perhaps they lived a few miles away, in NJ. (The legal age of consent is 16 in NJ and 17 in NY.)

I believe she was supposed to be 14 or 15. Adult Alice was 29 and the events when she was a teen were about 15 years earlier. Of course the actress wasn't that young, best I can figure she was 22 or 23 when it was filmed.

14, 15, or 16 ... to me that isn't very important because they are not addressing the "legality" of the relationship. The movie is about how Milan took unfair advantage of an impressionable young aspiring author and how that had contributed to making her life difficult as an adult, and further to see if she could overcome all that to lead a more normal life with success as an author.

While I wish they'd made the age clearer, from a story standpoint I appreciated the moral grayness of it. I mean, clearly Milan was very forward when he groped the girl inappropriately, but in the "I want to be the first to make you come" scene, she received his advances. Her body language in the first instance communicated disinterest (which she never verbalized), but her body language in the second instance communicated interest. Here was someone she respected very much, who developed an interest in her that was intellectual first and physical second, but with their age gap and cultural differences, knowing how to manifest their interests in each other was off-kilter in a way that's common even for two consenting adults (even from the same age and same culture). I liked that the filmmakers didn't make the morality of the situation too clear-cut and polarized.
