Pedophilia and the age of consent

A few people commenting on this message board mistakenly called Milan a pedophile, but nowhere in the film was Milan shown having sexual interest in prepubescents. If his sexual orientation was primarily or exclusively toward girls in young Alice'a age range, he would be an ephebophile. Very different thing.

Ephebophilia is legal in most states after a certain age, and I suspect in Milan's country of origin as well. (The movie does say he's not from America originally.) The age of consent in NY is 17, but all the surrounding states are 16. Do we know for sure that young Alice lived in NY and not nearby NJ? And do we know for sure that she was 15 and not 16? The film didn't make it very clear, to my recollection.
