F the critics on this film !!!

Man , I haven't read such bad words spoken by critics in a long time. If you just read what these morons wrote about this film you would think it's one of the worst films ever.
This is just not true, and for whatever reason it got slammed is a mystery to me. Not only was "Just before I Leave" decent , but it was very good. The film being Cox first film behind the camera was done very well. There was a lot of serious and real life topics as well as some very funny parts in this type of film genre. The hell young adults go through being gay and struggling to come out about it for fear of bullying , and some cases as far as suicide is a very real problem in our country. This film did not make light of this in many ways, but did throw in light humor on that subject to keep it from going into a very depressing mood throughout.
You have Ted who comes back to stay at his brothers after a failed marriage, and not being able to truly cope with his fathers death which makes him want to kill himself. This all spins into real life problems as well as other human problems that everyday people and families go through. Cox did it in a way that at times was very funny, and others very serious. She did a great job at juggling all of these problems, but not crossing the threshold into just one type of film. It made for a good comedy/drama in these ways.
The acting was very good led by Sean William Scott, who at times can be very good at being funny(as he's known for) but also serious. He does have talent, and shows his acting range which he has done before by crossing over from a goof ball to a serious guy.
Screw the critics on this one BIG TIME. I don't know what these "experts" we're watching , or if they watched the film at all. Nonetheless I give it a 7, and say definitely give it a try if you get the chance. It is on Starz OnDemand so you don't have to pay to see it.
I just came on here to post this because I believe that the critics can shove it on this one all the way. It deserves better , and you can tell by the user reviews and comments (for the most part) that people seem to agree with me that it was quite entertaining.

I am pretty shocked. This movie was pretty decent in my opinion and the critics totally skewered it. If you're on the fence or wondering whether to watch it I'd say definitely yes. It is a unique mix of sentimentality and slightly raunchy humor but it was fun and very watchable with a cool cast.

I've seen much worse movies get praised by these so-called "critics". I hate to play this card, but I think if a man would have directed it (exactly the same way) they wouldn't have been as harsh.

I agree with you about Sean William Scott. I always thought he was pretty funny, but for some reason I was never really a fan. But after seeing this film and Goon, this guy can do comedy and drama (at the same time even!). Very talented guy.

I gave this movie a 7. About halfway through I had it at a 5, but the last half of the movie brought it up 2 pts for me.

I also feel a "7" is the perfect rating, even though I did rank it a 9, I still believe it's a good 7 film. IDK what the critics said, but obviously it was panned, and why idk. I also was never hugely into Sean, I thought he was good in Final destination, but he really stunned me in this. I was going into this expecting a goofy comedy, and I got much more.

Everyone really had their own issues, and I thought this was better than I expected it to be.

Agreed.

There were a lot of funny lines (many felt like improv, but without reading the script I can't say for sure). The cop brother had some really funny (awful) lines.

"We're going to get you the best retard specialist out there".

Wow. So wrong yet so funny.

I'm not an expert, but this film was a cringe a minute. I was embarrassed that my husband was in the house while I was watching. I had seen the ending before and I had thought the film was going to be at least watchable.
While not remotely as bad as "Freddy Got Fingered," which is in a class of awfulness by itself, I thought BIG was a piece of *beep*

I haven't read the critics and I don't plan to.

I just saw this movie and my best synopsis it that it is very "uneven." By that I mean lots of it works, and a lot of it is too stupid to be either clever or funny. It can go from "that's pretty neat story telling" to "that is pretty stupid" literally within a few seconds.

I have no issue with Cox's direction, I suppose my beef would be with the script. Or maybe flawed improvisation if it contains a lot of that.
