Actors take a hint = No one cares about the Middle East or South America

This bombed, just like Our Brand is Crisis, Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, and Rock the Kasbah before it because the public doesn't have the appetite for such stories like the limousine Hollywood liberals do.

AMEN BROTHER!

I don't have time/stomach/desire to watch a bunch of PC Muslim/White guilt crap. THAT is the hologram---that an old idea wrapped in love for Muslims and cliches can be considered good.

This is a HACKY idea. Romeo & Juliet was the great version, West Side Story their modern day and this...this is a hologram of a good idea for studio execs and liberals.

These two people haven't seen the movie. Never mind, just keep commenting anyway, it's the internet.

Seeing it or not it is the premise which bothers me.

Let's flip it around:
If it was an Arab man over here and he suffers a stress attack and saved by an American it would be regarded as propaganda for America. The Jews would be blamed. Hollywood's control by Jews & MORE old stereotypes would be brought up. Europe's antisemitism would rise, an excuse would be made to favor Palestinians, and Europe would believe it calling the movie a propaganda piece put out by the Jews.

Let's remove the Jews from blame for a minute.

Arab nations would assert, especially Iran, that this movie is propaganda to show fictitious American/Western compassion. Terrorists would use this as propaganda to show how we lie. There would be a rise of hatred from Europe saying we're once again showing how we're superior.

In short the WEST CANNOT win, especially America in its portrayal in the Middle East. The Jews would always be blamed. So...when I see a

WE ARE MUSLIMS and are BETTER THAN YOU decadent Jew-loving nations and sand it better and Arabs are nice and SAND cares and you are horrible....

Debate me all you want, but in the end you know I am right.

If I am wrong why aren't they more trusting of us and our movies? Why do they say we're full of lies.

I want to burn every print.

Now you want a realistic movie? Soon after he arrives a terrorist group may attack and kidnap him, hold him for random and TKSA would deny all knowledge and then claim we were holding it over them. Saudi Arabia would threaten to drop asserts and sell....wait that's happened

You need to chill out and stop hating on Muslims, they are human beings like any other person, debate me all you want, but at the end of the day you know I'm right ;)

"Stop hating on Muslims."

Westerns almost always do poorly overseas. Are other countries hating on cowboys? Most likely not. What they don't seem to like is the environment/setting of the films. The Old West is not something that typically interests them. Are Chinese guilt-tripping each other with madeup shaming words like 'Cowboyphobic.." No. That would be absurd.

If America, or the West, doesn't have much of an appetite for movies set in the Middle East (which we've seen proven over and over) why are some in Hollywood so insistent on making them, and not running the other way? It obviously isn't profit. If it isn't profit, there's only one other REAL reason to do it. To enforce a narrative.

Pointing this out does not mean people are 'hating on Muslims.'

I might be the only person who liked "Rock the Casbah". I was also intrigued by "Hologram..." For its surface view of life in KSA. We, collectively, know very little about it, except for the brutal life of living in a male-dominated, dessert world. I found it interesting all around.

As long as we are on the topic of the Middle East what the hell gives with that disgusting part of the world? Oh I know there are great people and great things there but COME ON, they wont let women drive or vote or be in public without a male relative (I lose track of what restrictive laws they have in which country the whole place is a mess).

They execute people for SORCERY effing WITCHCRAFT. They stone people to death for adultery or being raped.

I don't get it. Oh I could get it 500 years ago but the dark ages are long over its 2016. They are using Ipads there and driving fancy cars and in this movie using frigging HOLOGRAMS to communicate. Did you see how high tech the equipment was in that hospital, yet they have laws and policies that are based a thousand years ago.

And I admit I am a tad biased being a militant atheist but having a law that an ENTIRE CITY is off limits if you are not part of some crazy religion? Seriously?

I'm from Saudi Arabia, Jeddah, and this movie barely portrays Saudi life. Saudi is far from perfect, but we're certainly not this brutal Aladdin 'hassan chop' image you have of us. I've lived in the UK and KSA for over a decade each so I'm confident in my assessment of both cultures, being mixed myself I see the good and bad in both. Indeed women can't drive, however nobody here has been stoned for adultery or rape which is approved by the government, equivalent of me saying US courts allow pedo's and murderers to go free, then saying, they still let pedo's and murderers go free, thus allowing murder and pedophilia. Your judicial system is a part of the government, how is that any different? Or say police men execute people just for being black, same ridiculous level as that.

People cuss KSA all the time, however I've found the country to have some good and bad points, for example, safety. Never been robbed here, been robbed 6 times in the UK, that's only counting break ins, not the time I got mugged either, or called a Paki etc, which I've never experienced in the KSA. There is classism here, but not racism.

The thing with Mecca may seem odd to you, but it's a place of Muslim worship. We have memorial parks which are out of ground etc, sites, places in church etc. Sorry I say 'we' because I'm half British half Saudi so I consider myself a part of both. Anyhow we're not so bad here, just putting the 'fun' into fundamentalism.

Removed from the face of the earth? Nah. I just wish more Muslims could be Muslim like my Catholic parents are Catholic. IE they value modernity and civic virtue far above their religion.

That's why nothing has been invented there for centuries. They USED to value those things, but decided in the 12th century that Sufism and piety were the highest values. Since then there haven't exactly been too many Omar Khayyams produced in the Islamic world.

Now compare that to the European world who shook hands and stopped fighting wars of religion and what they've invented since. The airplane, electricity, the combustion engine, photography, the radio, the internet, the polio vaccine, and the list goes on. The Islamic world could have claims to fame like that if they just started giving something resembling a *beep* about the physical world.
