So I guess there are no Insurance payouts during Le Purge ??

I'd imagine Insurance Co. would balk at the idea of having to payout life insurance policies or even property damage on Purge Day.

I could see wife getting a policy on husband [or VV]and then offing him during Purge, but would they have to pay for someone who was accidentally caught out like the couple with the sabotaged car?

Would the LandLord have a right to his damaged building when the guvmint baddies came in to get people for the rich people's maze canned hunt? - Unless he's paid off before hand - Car insurance rates must be a literal bitch.

The ideas/background of The Purge are never really fleshed out in the movie, especially TNFFA thing...it becomes a shoot 'em up

Loll wow that's a great thought! No way they're paying that ishhh off.

I might be wrong, but I think most insurance companies decline coverage for damage done in a riot zone. I think the Purge would definitely fall under that category.

You mean in real life? ... Would be pointless to have insurance then, how do you know when there's gonna be a riot?...
It like having homeowners insurance and your Insurance company calls you and says "lol, we can't cover you today" as your house is on fire.

The financial toll of a Purge Day would be unrealistic in almost any economy...

They will only have a problem if the payouts exceed the totality of cumulative insurance premiums to begin with. Of course, they wouldn't be doing it on the day itself, as they wouldn't have to even it'd otherwise be illegal.

True, but as far as insurance is concerned, usually what will or will not be covered is spelled out in incredible detail.

The more one thinks about this "purge" idea, the worse it gets (i mean if killing randomly is not bad enough). Since all crime (up to and including murder) is legal, then what about hacking, fraud, (il)legal money transfers, etc. This would ruin the country in the first 20 minutes.

And this does not even go into the effects it would have on other countries, who surely would shun the US if they ever implemented anything resembling this method.

There is absolutely no way any of this could happen except maybe in a totalitarian state, but only one that is completely cut-off from the outside.
