It's 2 hours before the Purge
Let's just stop by the F-ing supermarket that is not within walking distance. It's not like my car can break down or anything like that.
The husband and wife both should've died for that stupidity alone.

I'm 35 min into it
I agree the husband is especially stupid.
He better die.
I know, that bugged me too. We're supposed to feel sorry for them, that they got stuck outside on Purge night and couldn't help it. But the writers could've come up with a better reason for them to have been out.
shareAnd it's only The Purge for 12 hours.
Do they really need macaroni salad that badly?
Couldn't it have waited until morning?
A coward hides behind freedom. A brave person stands in front of it & defends it for others.
Yeah, most people would be feasting on ramen safely locked down at home. No way would I be out and about 2 hours before purge time.
shareYeah I don't know why anyone would be out at that time. They also casually remarked that "its good we took the backroads, the highway must be packed", which implies that there must be tons of other people who are cutting it very close.
I also liked how the diner staff were all waiting until they got permission to go home for the day, a couple hours before the Purge started. Also, the mother and daughter taking a shower and causally making dinner before locking down their place.
I would be very worried about people starting the Purge early if I was in that situation. Cops are off duty for those 12 hours, and are probably already at home themselves by that point. If someone tries to break into their apartment an hour before the official start, would the cops respond?

Yeah it's astonishing how many people were going about their day like it was no big deal. I don't see how everybody wouldn't plan their vacation on purge day. Purge day comes every year. It's negligent not to plan around it. Buy your groceries well before. The best option is to leave the country, if you can. If you can't still stay take a vacation day and stay the hell inside.
shareLOL, I always thought this was the dumbest part of the Purge movies. If, at 7 pm, the outside world becomes a bloodbath of carnage, why not just call in sick that day? Is your minimum wage waitress job really worth your life? Stay in, order some pizza.
shareCar didn't break down.
that being said, yea, they were dumb (maybe it was her decision to go buy some twinkies though!)
