The games seem to be getting worse

This game didn't really live up to my expectations. I bought it two days ago and I'm already planning on buying Saints Row 2 again. 2 was a lot of fun to me. The city was cool with lots of interesting places to explore (the islands, mountain, secret research facility, the cave, etc.) and lots of fun things to do. Saints Row 3 was pretty fun but the city was stripped down with nothing really to do. 4 was just a dark, dreary, boring landscape in which to play with your super powers, which were no longer fun when they lost their novelty.

Just completed the fourth one and enjoyed it.However not as good as the third one and I have not played the original two,so my question is should I get the second one? Especially this late on in the consoles life is it a backwards step or is it still fun and relevant for such an old game? Any feedback would be appreciated.

I preferred the second one to the third.
Though it's quite related to the first one, so IMO you'd have to really play them both. One is something of a step down graphically that's to be sure.
But it's a fun arcadey game with decent storylines.
The second one was great though.

Yes, definitely!!! The second one is the best and the first one is also awesome!!

the first was okay it just feels like a gta clone but it was still fun. the second one is by far my favorite I got like 5 days of in game time on it on one save . the third was okay it tried to hard to be funny which made it kind of feel stupid at times. now to the 4th at first I thought it was the best game ever but than the novelty of super powers wore off I beat the game and had nothing else to do on it so I havnt played it in like 4 months. they keep getting worse after SR2 I say they should just remake SR 2 instead of making a fifth

How much of this is due to THQs liquidation?

Genuinely don't know. It may be the game it is because the new studio decided to keep whatever work THQ was doing, or merely to go with the third map because it was easier and they can use the excuse of 1 & 2 being the same map.

I think a new one will be better, but so far I'm enjoying the game. :)

The truth is, this "sequel" was never meant to be a sequel to begin with.
It was originally going to be a piece of DLC for SR3, but THQ went under and it was never released.

But what work had been done on it was padded out (and obviously so) and released as a "sequel" instead.
However, you can really tell, this was meant to be DLC.
It's a shame this game ended up how it did. It's quite obvious is been padded out like crazy to appear to be a full game.

From what I've read and understand, this is the last SR game.

And so, God came forth and proclaimed widescreen is the best.

no it's not the last game they have a new one coming out February 3rd

True but it's not a SR sequel (which is what I meant). It's an stand alone add-on to SR IV. Just so they can milk that title a bit more.
It'll be what Blood Dragon was to Far Cry.

A lighter version of the full game with a new story.

Personally, I think they should take a leaf out of Rockstar's book (not for the first time) and just reboot the series.
I feel the games slowly got worse and SR 2 was the peak of the franchise. But I also feel there could be more and better games made.

I've a always said they should allow you to create your own gang and have it be fully customizable...something the SR games did well was customization. Apply that to fully creating a gang. They could even have a story where your gang teams up with or goes against The Saints.
Give us an all new city instead of regurgitating the same ones over and over. I mean 4 games in the series and only 2 cities?
Get the balance right between great game and silly plot...like SR 2, but without going stupidly OTT like SR IV.

Or even using SR IV as a template, create an all new IP where you play as super-antihero.
I've always said SR IV was amazingly stupid fun game to play (despite it's many problems)...but it was a crap SR game.

I never played the first two but I loved the third one, and I have the Re-Elected version of SR4 Which is just as much fun, I love how SR4 was basically Star Wars meets The Matrix or in other words, an R Rated Star Wars lol
