A Masterpiece

This series is an absolute delight. Well done all involved!

Have you seen the first one? Titled, "The Trip"? I thought that one was. But this one - I'm not so sure (after 2 eps). :/ Although the Italian scenery is unsurprisingly mind-blowing, so far I've kind of felt it's essentially the same as the first, albeit in a different setting. Even the impressions - although still funny - kind of drag on a bit and don't seem as spontaneous.

Sorry!

I must admit, I agree with kayes. I LOVED the first series, just loved it. Watch it all the time. I so, so wanted this series to be as good and I have to admit to myself that, so far, it just hasn't been.

I hope you stuck with it. I enjoyed the series, although the repetitive impressions were a little tiring at times. The last episode (episode 6) was the best, though.

I think this series is great. I thought the first series was brilliant.

So I can't really complain. But the main difference for me is that there's no real narrative in the Italy trip, it's more sporadic, things happen with no bearing later. And the impressions (whilst joyous) are overdone for me.

Where next? :)

I had never heard of The Trip before reading up on this series and haven't yet seen it. I was drawn to this as I first visited Italy when I was 8 and am particularly partial to the Amalfi Coast. I've found it very funny and have relished revisiting Capri and Ravello for free (well, for the cost of my tv licence!).
I wish that there had been more Alan Bennett impressions, I find those hysterical!

I saw 'the Trip to Italy" first and loved it. I can see how the impressions could get tiresome ; but Steve and Rob do them so well. they are just so talented. The scenery was spectacular, the history of Byron/Shelley was interesting (hopefully accurate); the the comraderie between them, despite their obvious differences was fun to watch. Even a little backstory for each of them. Great movie!!! Have watched it 3 times.

A year later I watched "The Trip" Dreary countryside; over the top nouvelle cuisine restaurants not loved by Steve or Rob; and no story at all. I never made it to the end. I guess that you have to be British to appreciate driving through barren flat countryside. sorry!

"some men will cheat if they know they'll never get caught." Yes, that much is standard wisdom. More formidable is a man who cheats when he knows he is getting caught, on camera. Is this like reality TV -- "real", but not actually real -- or does this guy have issues? Or is it like, risk everything for the sake of art?

Wish I could have seen the series, the only thing available for me is the DVD of the movie. But the extra scenes included are laugh-out-loud funny. I love Brydon's Michael Caine telling his wife Shakira (voiced by Coogan also as Michael Caine) that he's killed a high-priced prostitute and now has to get rid of the body. Coogan is cracking up the whole time, it's great.

I live in the US so that is the same for me.
I had never heard of the TV series before coming to this Board.

I saw "The Trip to Italy" movie on Netflix and it was a lot of fun.

Because of this film, I'm going to see "The Trip" film which is also on Netflix.

BB ;-)

it is just in my opinion - imo - 🌈

Italy, was the star of this 'movie'. and of course, its food...i almost wanted to grab it from the screen as I watched them devouring every morsel offered. As an American, I never heard of this show, and the Italy tour was my attraction to it. It was a bunch of nonsense only to show the beauty and the food of Italy. I was confused by some of their accents and particularly their impersonations, mostly of American movie stars...Di Nero, Brando and Pancino to mention a few. Then I found out that this was a BBC TV series.
