So Meta It's...

I don't want to like this.

It's so 'meta'. Literally every frame you can ask, 'how real is this?'. Which seems self-indulgent to the max. And so much of it is 'inside baseball'. Which also feels self-indulgent.

It's like aging hipsters... BBC style... instead of Manhattan.

But I have to admit, -some- of the jokes are great. I kinda want to rent this and make a highlight reel lasting about 20-30 minutes.

The other hour? Meh.

There's also an element of Borat and Alan Partrige which I dislike. Some of their self-referential bits on aging, marriage, career, etc., which are supposd to be 'poignant' I just find kinda painful. Perhaps this is a British deal, but as Lenny Bruce used to say... "Most guys spend their lives in a *beep* house. Why do I wanna go see a show about people living in a *beep* house?"

I wanna see comedy. If I wanna see middle-aged guys worrying about their lives... hell I don't have to leave home to do that. :D

While I enjoyed both "Trip" movies, I can sort of understand what you are saying. When I recommend these films to others, it is sometimes with reservations - partly due to their unfamiliarity with these performers, and partly due to the dry nature of much of the work. As for 'self indulgent', this second movie seemed more guilty of that than the first, I think.
