Justin Long is Robert Downey Jr.?

At certain points in this film I was definitely getting a Robert Downey Jr. vibe from Justin.
The fast talking, nervous yet intelligent witticism.. Long could really be monumental when he's older/ matured (Hollywood likes the older matured man - Downey, Clooney, Farrell). Perhaps it's just the accent that lets him down...

I didn't think so

Downey's got undeniable charisma.

reply

Downey is way more attractive.

reply

Definitely Downey is more attractive, but men tend to get better looking as they age. Long would have to seriously age well (and could develop a sweet accent like Downey's) but if he could manage all of that in 10-15 years, it's possible (anything is possible ;p ).

It was mostly at the very start (cemetary scenes) that I was getting the vibe. It was reminiscent of Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (not the more mainstream Downey films - Avengers, Iron Man etc.)

reply

Nah. I don't think he will ever be as attractive as Downey, lol. That man is even hotter than clooney!

reply

Definitely sounded like Downey in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang... Was trying to piece it together, and then it hit me...

reply

I can see that.

I thought the exact same thing. Very similar mannerisms and acting style in this, looks aside.

I actually thought he looks a lot like RHCP front man Anthony Kiedis - especially in the one time line where he has longer hair, stubbles and striped sweater.

reply

Yes! That was who I was thinking of. I drove me mad since I couldn't figure out who it was.

callumfaulkner: Right from the beginning, Justin Long sounded exactly like Robert Downey Jr. to me.

I can see the connection you are making, but I didn't make it myself. Nevertheless, I am very likely in the minority when I say that I am not a huge Robert Downey Jr. fan and actually enjoy Justin Long's performances more (this is not about hot or not, because I am not into men, just about how the work as actors and how their general personalities come through in different forms of media).

Robert Downey used to be cool, but he got so up his own ass it isn't endearing anymore. He couldn't even take a few jabs from Ricky Gervais at the Golden Globes a few years ago, despite having a storied past of guttertrash behavior (something like Charlie Sheen, but at least Sheen owns it). His latest performances (sans Tropic Thunder but describing that as latest is a stretch) have been all the same pompous-yet-witty know-it-all and I guess it has become reality (witnessed through his interviews).

Justin Long may not ever have the career Downey has, but I respect him many times more for the humility and versatility he shows in his performances.

I'm so glad you posted this. Those are my thoughts exactly. In fact, like slgr7, I noticed that from extremely early on.
