As long as Sue Akins has

Her cigarettes and whiskey, I think she will survive the dark winter just fine

reply

She says she quit smoking. Her doctors told her that she wouldn't heal as long as she smoked, so she tossed her ciggies in the incinerator when she came back.

reply

Bull. she quit smoking on camera.
Sue is full of s*** about everything. She doesn't live a subsistence lifestyle.
She runs a high-end business on the Arctic Circle.
She talks and acts like she lives on the edge. She says "If I don't shoot this or that then I don't eat", then a plane lands with $90,000 dollars worth of food and new freezers and fuel and cigarettes.
She claims to spend 8 months a year completely alone, yet airplanes and cargo land constantly.

She needs to go.

Lol, Jim.

Just another staged fake reality show.

I thought she said in a previous season that the meat she killed was for her and that she could not serve that to her clients, she could only serve USDA meats to her customers.

reply

I am certain that is correct.
I am also certain that Sue is allowed to eat the USDA approved food.

She makes such a crisis about when the lights go out.
"My very life is now in jeopardy"
Then she throws a breaker, flips a switch and they go back on.
WELL, I guess I dodged the grim reaper one more time.

What a drama queen!

Sue isn't trying to live a subsistence life like Glenn, she runs an outpost/camp for hunters, scientists, oil industry people, etc. Apples and oranges.

And she still has the balls to live farthest north. I have only seen a few episodes so I don't know her whole personality, she does have an ego, but so what. As for over dramatazing, well, it's a reality show.

reply

joel -- I'll agree that Sue leads a pretty tough (and lonely) life, but she's not nearly as close to death as she pretends to be all the time. She's not the sharpest tack in the box, and a drama queen. Now if she's like that normally or that's a face she puts on for the show, I have no idea, but I'll guess, the former.

I wouldn't mind if she was dropped from the show.

None of them are in these reality shows, it's all staged to some extend - and some more than others - to add some drama, where there's no drama to begin with. It's typical American Reality-TV, always exaggerating to the extreme.

Yes it can be hard to live in the arctic - I know, I've done that for ten years in Greenland - but in our modern time, we have all sorts of aids, machines and whatnot to help us out, and Sue got plenty of machines to ease her workload - she even have friggin' internet for crying out loud - she also bought a used Caterpillar swing loader, and after she failed to take it home herself, she paid the company to deliver it at her camp, and that had to cost her a shlt load of shiny $$$, so she's not broke, or living on the edge, not even close.

She runs a very lucrative hunting/tourist business up there, and you can't do that if you're dense as a 400 year old redwood. She's not as dumb as she appears, but she lacks in social skills and in personal hygiene. Her personal living quarters are filthy and nasty, and I wouldn't eat anything she's been cooking - it's a recipe for a severe stomachache.

p.s. I have a friend that comes from Alaska, and he told me that they don't pay income tax in Alaska, so every single $ they make, is going straight into their own pockets, and on top of that, they receive a check every year from the Alaska Permanent Found Corporation as well - Is that correct?

reply

From what I understood when she had to dump the neat there was a lot of expensive meat, I saw hotdogs for one. But there was a lot of hunted meat too. Though I've questioned with her camp and her website pictures of it; if there are a lot of trophy hunters or how many take their meat with them as she offers the services of areas to butcher and oreoaee it and I think it said freeze - for a fee. But I can see there has to be trophy hunters and maybe some of that hunted meat is from them.

We don't really know though since it's a so called reality show, we only see what they show and speculate about the rest of it.
