Couldn't finish it...

First, let me just say that this is RARE for me, but I could not even finish this movie. What I don't understand, is it has very high ratings on Netflix (I know these are weighted based on my taste preferences) AND here on IMDB.

Given the high ratings, I wanted to give it a shot (I actually stopped it and came back to it twice), but didn't make it past the dialog when she is before the judge...wait, I take that back...that was one of the points were I quit. Now that I think of it, I came back after than but then TOTALLY gave up when she couldn't get a cell signal in the town and they flashed that goofy message on screen. As the pickup truck descended the hill and what was obviously going to be the local "good guy/love interest" started to open his mouth, I just had to stop: every fiber in my being was screaming for relief!

The acting was difficult, the script/dialog was cheesy, and even the camera work seemed convoluted. I don't get it. I've just read a review of someone who said the ending was awesome, so I've considered just jumping to that point, but what's the use...I can already predict what it's going to be after watching less than 1/3 of the movie.

Really sorry you didn't like this movie; I'm watching it now, and find it to be better than I expected. Of course it's predictable - it's a typical feel-good movie. But I don't think the dialogue or the acting is difficult at all, I just think it's not your kind of flick. Maybe you didn't read the synopsis; I knew from just a couple sentences exactly what it would be like. Too bad it's not up to your standards.

Agreed, complete garbage. Then the forced small-town religious storyline started, and off it went.

I gave up on it also. Too, "Aw, shucks" christian-small-town-wholesometastic for me. Fine premise, but the execution (to the point that I watched... the church pancake breakfast) was hackneyed, insulting to both stereotyped "big city" viewers and stereotyped "rural America" characters. Meh.

Calm the heck down They weren't rude about it. They just didn't like it. You're being a bit of a snob on your own.

I can understand why some people did not like this movie. There is a lot of cynicism in our culture, and those affected by it often tend to be overly critical of, well, everything. But for someone like me, who is optimistic and still believes in God and love, this was a wonderful film. Technically, it was weak at times; the acting was not great (although as an OLTL fan, I could not get enough of Trevor St. John, bad southern accent and all!); continuity and writing were pretty average --- but I cried more than once at its simple truth and beauty.

I still believe in God and Love, but this movie is terrible! I lasted 20 minutes. Life is too short to watch garbage.

I knew it was a retake on Doc Hollywood, but I watched it and enjoyed it.

Amen, yeah..Amen!

Nor could I. I thought maybe this would be likeable, in the vein of Heart of Dixie- though the first sentence of the description(and not accurate as one states NC and another LA) of this one screamed "Doc Hollywood" knockoff even more. If anything, I thought maybe I'd get a peek of Candice Cameron-Bure's legs- she has a nice set ;)

I began typing this review after about 5 minutes- having had my dose of way too forceful arrogant physician and bucolic police cliches. I had intended to leave it on in the background while I did something I deemed more productive. The line about "taking the Creator's name..." from the Judge ended it right there.

I suppose that the movie could save itself but without copious infusions of explosions, murder plots or zombies, I doubt it. Not a chance I'm willing to take.

She has a license to practice in Cali, if she were to practice medicine and God forbid surgery in another state without a license in that state, she could get in some beyond bad trouble.

Hey folks,

Most of the responses here tend to make non-religious folks seem very narrow minded and shallow in thought. I do not have to be religious in any way to appreciate this film. All I have to be is a human being with an appreciation for others, and this film gives me something to appreciate - something to escape for a while the worst things of life we see most days.

Some folks see this as a "religious" film and waste no time to reject it without further consideration. Some religious folks will "praise" it simply because it is a "religious" film. As a humanist, I simply enjoyed the bucolic story and escaped to nice place for a little while.

Best wishes,
Dave Wile
