Cotton Mather deserved a better fate than that

Pretty much the only thing I disliked about the finale.

reply

hey but at least it provided epic shots of hell.

reply

That sucked. Mather didn't deserve that.

reply

I didn't like that Cotton went to Hell, but it demonstrated he was willing to sacrifice his soul to save the people of Salem.

reply

He killed innocent people (1st season) and he was a complete hypocrite (preaching from the pulpit while being a whoring drunk). He got exactly what he deserved.

reply

I cant remember whom did he kill in S01?

#TheXFiles #BreakingBad #Lost #Hannibal #Fringe #River #Utopia #TwinPeaks #POI

reply

Remember the falsely accused puritans he was killing that completed the grand rite.

reply

Falsely accused under the administration of Mary, who basically free a happy ending in comparison.

reply

Yes he was a hypocrite and betrayed his wife Anne. She was not a saint but she could have been brought to the side of good if he had been a good husband.

I agree his being a whoring drunk and an adulterer did gain him a place in Hell.

Are you joking?

reply

But he was remorseful and repented according to the bible no matter what you do, that's enough to get to heaven

It's interesting because I've read that our spirit/soul is condemned to hell or purgatory not necessarily by god but by our own doing; unless you can forgive yourself and/or admit that what you did was wrong and are then able to ascend to the higher planes, you will remain in hell. Cotton's case is interesting because he didn't die naturally by gods grace or anything, he didn't actually die at all-he committed himself to hell so it's almost like he avoided god's judgement/forgiveness which makes it more sad and hopeless that he'd ever get out of hell.

i'm pretty sure that throughout this series they made it a point that the bible isn't exactly 100 percent accurate in its details of how THEIR world works. such as annes soul being condemed to hell before she even had a chance to do anything bad. cottons demise was absolutely fitting with the show. if you look at it none of them truly deserved horrible fates cause they were all simply trying there best to survive in that horrible world.

reply

INDEED! He was hypocrital as f?ck, least favourite character in the show.

reply

Ever consider that a character getting something they don't deserve holds some artistic value? Not asking snidely, but that's how I see it.
