"She doesn't love you"

I didn't understand that bit! When Alex said Marie wasn't capable of love, is that because of her illness? Can somebody who knows a bit about anorexia explain that to me please?
Also, how great was Robert Sheehan's accent?! :)

I think he was exaggerating when he said she wasn't capable of it, he's just trying to explain part of her issues, maybe that she uses people, even those she's fond of, and that could be argued to be technically incapable of love.

"Need" is a man-made concept. As is "should", "must", "value" and "importance".

Because anorexics hate their bodies thus hate themselves, and it's believed you can't love someone without loving yourself

Very unfair, bigoted and generalized comment to make about people who suffer with mental health disorders. It's actually an insult and your account should be banned.

What's up with this politically correct crap? keep it to yourself and your brainwashed head, it's a board where people discuss the movie and the symptoms of anorexia can be what these guys said, there's nothing wrong with it, it's as real as it gets and that's it, swallow the truth or go live in Unicorn Land.

I think what he meant was that she was incapable to love just because she didn't even love herself, you know the old saying 'you can't love someone else until you love yourself'

People who don't love themselves tend to be just clingy with other people thinking that it is love when it isn't

Also I think he was right about Marie wanting to simply not die alone and that she knew that she was gonna die because of her condition

That doesn't necessarily mean that she was merely using him and that she didn't like him though

And Sheehan's accent was great I didn't realise he was Irish til I looked it up

FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS!!!

I wish they would've explained that bit

(potential spoilers)

I used to work with teens and it's not that rare for them to have co-diagnoses. Marie's character most certainly also has borderline personality disorder, and has probably suffered some abuse in her childhood. Yeah, she's using Vincent. She doesn't know how not to anymore than Alex can help his compulsions or Vincent his tics. In fact, I think Alex is right about everything he says about Marie. Sad as it was when Vincent left her in the hospital, I think her behavior there, again, was consistent with BPD ("Vincent, you love me", not "Vincent, I love you" or even "I need you").

I dont understand. why didnt she love vincent back. he would of given her everything. she would do things that show love but then at the end she didnt say that she loved him. why would she 'Use" him if she didnt love him

I think some of the movie left a lot of plotholes and unanswered questions. I was a little confused about that too, why was he so sure that she didn't love him and why didn't or couldn't she love him? Why was Alex feeling weird about Vincent and Marie hooking up? What happened to Marie in the hospital and why didn't she want to see her parents? And seems like we're forgetting that these are 2 people (Vincent and Alex) who still needs treatment and help for their conditions but they just walked off on the beach as if everything was peachy and perfect so I want to know did they ever go back for treatment? Why didn't they go a little more into depth about Marie and Alex's story? they just named all these main ideas without giving any details. I don't really like how anorexia was portrayed. All they really showed was she doesn't eat and at one point she said "it's not that easy" but never went into depth of how and why or if she even knows how and why. It was really lazy research and/or writing on the anorexic part. They spent more time on the romance and her "not loving him back" than they did on her actual story. The movie was good but it could've done better with some things.

His accent was flawless. I was impressed. I would never have realized he wasn't American if I didn't already know him from Misfits.

I took it that Alex was jealous of their relationship whether he had feelings for Vincent or was feeling left out because of their budding romance. That seemed pretty apparent.

Robert Sheehan is incredible. His accent was truly flawless.
