Who can actually shed some light on this industry?

Are there any persons who actually work in a call center in Britain? Or nearby areas?

I currently work in one, in Omaha, Nebraska, and have worked at two others and just.. WOW.

This guy, Nev, would've been sued and shut down in an instant in the USA. I appreciate his ethic for wanting to keep an upbeat environment but honestly, if I were to be applying and then get paraded around in the interview, and if i were male and having to deal with getting my nipples played with? No way.

I just wonder how accurate this actually is outside of this company when it comes to the way other call centers handle themselves over there. NONE of this would ever fly, at least in the places that I've worked. I suppose it's also a bit different that the owner of this company actually not only makes himself known but is also physically there, which is also a LOT different than what I'm used to (where you'd probably have to go through 5 higher ups before you got to the owner/CEO and even then, unless you were suing it's not like you'd ever be able to speak to them) but.. oh my god.

How inappropriate is this guy?! not to mention, if you pay attention to the background, you can see a lot of people have to cover their mouthpieces or just walk away because of how loud and obnoxious people were being. I'm sorry, if I'm getting paid based on my performance, I don't want the distraction and the noise and would find it quite annoying.

I essentially 'cold call' people, although I'm not selling and just trying to do customer satisfaction surveys for banks and such, but there is NO WAY I would ever work at this place. My company is pretty lax, I guess by US standards, and we have plenty of fun and joke and talk and such but wow. It seems like Nev is more concerned about playing cupid and digging into people's personal lives, and that's not okay and it doesn't seem to matter how willing or unwilling the person is. Personal boundaries, anyone?

As an added note: Someone like Hayley? Again, I appreciate the fact that he realised she wasn't good on the phones and gave her another job, but when she's not good at serving tea and coffee? The girl is the same age as me. Is she doing a little under the table work? She needs to be fired so she can realise her work ethic ("Oh she's only FIFTY minutes late today!") is seriously lacking and I think it would be better for her to realise that life doesn't work that way, if you can't hack it then get the *beep* out of the way for someone who actually cares to work and show some pride in it.

Hehe... it's a "mockumentary" (fake documentary) like "the office".

They're all actors and it's scripted ! I found it absolutely halarious, and I loved every minute of it !

ALSO, THE MOON LANDINGS WERE NOT FAKE EITHER.

No it's not real. It's a slightly softer 'The Office' trying to make it less obviouse that its scripted.

It is 100% real. I am an IT Service Desk Team Leader and Neville attends quite a few of the IT Service Desk conferences I have attended as a speaker, in fact I have just come back from the SDI one in Birmingham where he was discussing the happy staff sell subject.

He is actually like he is on the show and he discusses his approach to management, discussing his approach to HR issues etc and acknowledges that in most organisations he wouldn't get away with it and in some of the cases at Saving Britain Money he hasn't got away with it and HR have got involved.
