Not as good as RE4

RE4 is on of my favorite games. This game was heavily inspired at some points, no doubts, but it simply didn't work the same way. It tried to be RE4, Silent Hill and The Last of Us at the same time. Sounds awesome, but I simply felt the game was incoherent. There's something about the plot that just doesn't work. It would probably be better for this game to just stick with something close to the Silent Hill style. The action style, and RE4 type of warzones felt more and more pointless to me, somehow, as the confusing plot was revealed.

I give it 7/10, which is good, but expresses obvious flaws for a game of this magnitude.

Yeah, good point. There's a kick ass forward drive in RE4, while this was like taking the mentioned games, and putting them into a blender.

reply

not as good as re4
yeah i can agree with you there
but its at least better than re5 and any re game after it

reply

Good! But I personly only think it's truly better than RE6 and a sidegame a can't even remember the name for (didn't bother to play it much). I think that RE:Revelations was almost equal, but RE:Revelations 2 was really good, and better.

reply

RE4 was the end of RE, it turned a great survival horror into crappy action. i was fooled by mikami promise to go back to the root with evil within, instead he made a worthless imitation of silent hill

reply

"RE4 was the end of RE, it turned a great survival horror into crappy action"

I'll just readjust that sentence a little bit:

RE4 was the end of RE, it turned a great survival horror into great survival action/horror!!

reply

you must be teenager, you want a great action game, play black on ps2.

reply

I'm 33...

reply

i'm 44, so you are teenager for me

reply

Whatever you say, but my dad who's 60 loved the game too. He did prefer the old "cozy" slow zombies to begin with, though.

reply

it's a good game no doubt and fun, just not resident evil kind of fun.

reply

the game is as forgettable as RE4, they are both fun, but the story is average.

reply

To each his own.

reply

I like this game but its no resident evil 4 it reminds me more of the suffering

you will have to forgive the lack of full stops lack of proper spelling im dyslexic but not stupid

reply

Haven't heard of that before. Seems good.

reply

You should give it ago you play as a guy on death row and it then turns all silent hill ish as its time for youe execution alogh mabey more actiony than silent hill but not a bad game its seams to have been forgotten a little bit as times gone on

you will have to forgive the lack of full stops lack of proper spelling im dyslexic but not stupid

reply

Thanks, maybe I will, but there's so many New PS4 games waiting for me now.

reply

Lol yea i know that feeling not upgraded to a ps4 yet myselfe I'm foolishly waiting form them to do a ps4 slim lol at least there will be a crap tone of games in there back catalog by then

The main game I'm awating on the ps4 is shenmue 3

you will have to forgive the lack of full stops lack of proper spelling im dyslexic but not stupid

reply

Wow. I have played a fair amount of games, but haven't heard of Shenmue either. First person? Action? Horror?

reply

Shenmue 3 on ps4 and PC will be a sequal to shenmue 1 and 2 that came out on the Sega Dreamcast it was the most expensive game ever made at the time but didn't sell to well because not enough people owned a Dreamcast at that point the anoyyibg part was that 2 ended on a cliffhanger that was never resolved until 2017 that is lol so only like a 15 year wait

shenmue 3 was put on kickstarter and broke a few record's with the amount of donations

But yea shenmue is an open world RPG set in Japan in the 80s it was verry ambitious and paved the way for many games that came after if I had to say what it was like o guess its kind of like the yakuza games in fact yakuza is kind of a spiritual successor to shenmue but I would say shenmue is better

you will have to forgive the lack of full stops lack of proper spelling im dyslexic but not stupid

reply

That sounds awsome actually! Open world RPG in Japan🇯🇵. I want to play this game, but we'll see.. and to do a sequel to a 15 year old game, that People has been anticipating is also cool.

reply

My psn is zombiedead feel free to send me a friend request I'm on ps3 at the moment but will have a ps4 at sompoint

you will have to forgive the lack of full stops lack of proper spelling im dyslexic but not stupid

reply

Thanks gamerfriend, but my PS can't be Connected at this moment. Never have been actually. If it happens soon, I'll remember zombiedead🎮

reply

I remember RE4 well, and it is a favourite game of mine.

PsychoBreak is also a favourite game of mine, I had a hell of a good time.

Played it only at nights, No lights, just Darkness at home.
And the only sound to be heard, was from the game thx to a rog headset.

It helped to expanded the feeling of being truly into the environments in the game.

And I loved how it affected me , like giving me nightmares.

The Best game released since RE4. Both are as equally good in my opinion.

But Less Horror/Sickness in RE4, No Laura etc to be scared of 😄

To bad its over now, I wonder what the future will bring ..

reply

Glad to hear it😃. I also look forward to what this game director comes up with next. A new Resident Evil on PS4 with him would be something!

reply

Didn't shingi makimi sorry for spelling say this may be the last game he directs I think he is looking g to be more of a supervisor for futer games this isn't necessary a bad thing wen you think he had this positions for resident evil 2 3 nemesis and code veronica kind of like how shigiro meomoto has supervised all the Zelda games ever since anything after ocarina of time

you will have to forgive the lack of full stops lack of proper spelling im dyslexic but not stupid

reply

Spelling is good enough for me. Well, if he did that for those Resident Evil games, it's not bad at all. I love all of them, and then he almost topped them With RE4. Do you know of more games he's done?

reply

Yea he has done some very decent games over the years I will say his only real low point was a GameCube game called P.N.03 its not awful per say it is just very average and repetitive

But

All his other stuff is very impressive like godhand on the ps2 you can get it on the psn store its a very challenging very in depth fighting system you can customize evary aspect of your moves list and it has a very odd story very over the top anime sensense of humer when ever I play this game I feel lole iv done a workout its that intense

Vanquish on the ps3 and 360 is also a lot of fun very much a duck and cover 3rd person shooter with a slight twist which is you are able to slide on your knees to evad enamys but I don't mean running then sliding I mean rocket power sliding lol the main game is fun but the survival modes steal the show

Shadows of the dammed is another but that was more of a supervisor roll for him alogh it was used he was a co director on it but it seams like a few people clams to be the director of it iv only whatched my frend play on this one briefly but it looks fun kinda like a cross between resi 4 and devil may cry but much more whacky with loads of phalic jokes

Then if you really wanna go back in time there is dino crisis on the ps1 and Dreamcast this play pretty much just like resident evil but with dinosaurs instead zombies its rather enjoyable game as well as its sequel the sequal has a more action almost proto resident evil 4 vibe to it but I advise stayi g away from dino crissis 3 that one is a major misfire liclaly for Mr mekimi he has nothing to do with it I think he was only a supervisor for 2 but I'd say its a worthy sequal

But yea these are the main one that spring to mind I hope this is coherent for you to read I'm stuck typeibg on a phone which isn't my preferred way of typeing

you will have to forgive the lack of full stops lack of proper spelling im dyslexic but not stupid

reply

It's coherent enough for me. No problem. I agree, phone typing is more of a struggle, good job since you're dyslexic.

Thanks for the list! All of his games sounds interesting. Dino Crisis I did play, and loved it at the time. My nephew, who's now 18 played that game with his mom, and still remember how cool and scary he thought it was. Wasn't aware of the sequels though. Would've been a lot of fun to get a PS4 Version!

reply

Well I'm glad I was helpful outside of shingy mikemi games and more survival horror some other instresting onse worth a shot are obscure and obscure 2 on the ps2 I think the 2nd one came out on the Wii as well but yea obscure by name and literally obscure generally you play as a group of teenagers locked in a high school with monsters coming g out of the woodwork its also multi player as an option

Also sillent hill is a good franchis alogh 1 to 4 are the best after that thay was developed by American company's and lost it's Japanese wirednes that the west often fails to replicate

Also eternal darkness on the GameCube is a very descent horror game that messes with ya head like when the character you are playing as becomes overwhelmed with fear that lose there sanity which strange things happen like the volume on your TV go down or a diskread error will acure only to randomly turn out to just be the game messing with you

Deadly premonition is another good one

Also hounting ground on the ps2 is a good one you play as a girl alone in a mannor with a gang of psycho's hunting her down with no way of defending her selfe apart from a white dog called Huey an interesting bit of trivia for ya that dog has a cameo in resident evil 4 he's the dog you find cought in a Bear trap near the start

But yea in turns of survival horror ya best bet is to go back to the past as a lot of newer survival horror games just arnt as good IMO not that that are all bad but something is missing I feel

"obscure by name and literally obscure generally you play as a group of teenagers locked in a high school with monsters coming g out of the woodwork its also multi player as an option"

Reminds of "Until Dawn" on PS4, wich I have just played. High quality game with lots of alternative outcomes!

Silent Hill I've played much (but not like RE, over and over again), and I agree first games was best, particularly 1 and 2.

Seems I Game Cube has some cool games, I haven't got the chance to play, since it's always been PS for me.

Cool!🐶

I haven't thought so much about newer horror games, other than that there's not so many of them. I felt the exact same though about horror movies in the 90's especially and some of the 00's. But there's really been some good ones again since then.

reply

Oh god yea until dawn is deffo on my hit list wen I finally get me a ps4 looks awesome

I haven't got or and to plati g that new alien game yet ether I'm in two minds about waiting til I get my ps4 before playing that or getting it for ps3

But yea I got a huge back catalogue of games that never seams to shrink lol

you will have to forgive the lack of full stops lack of proper spelling im dyslexic but not stupid

reply

Alien game seems awsome, but again, yes, so many...😃

reply

Yeah,

Alien Isolation had very impressive scary moments in it. I would recommend that Game! Had fun and really enjoyed it.

Well, RE4 is one of the greatest games of all-time, so recreating that would be difficult, even for Mikami. The biggest difference for me is that EW is very fast-paced, while most of the creatures/villagers in RE4 move quite slowly but menacingly. EW is more like an action game with some stealth thrown in, and not truly scary, IMO.

Still, I thought EW was a great game, though extremely difficult in parts on Survival Mode. That boss ending Level 10 in the garage took me nearly 6 hours and hundreds of deaths to defeat.

The level design was very intricate and lovingly created. There's a sense of accomplishment as you finish each chapter. The story, though convoluted and not concluded in a satisfying manner, does keep you engaged.

I hope there's a sequel, though I kinda doubt it, based on what I've read.

"This is dead air, Barry....dead air."

reply

Don't think I tried survival mode, but I don't remember now. Probably hard yes. I remember that garage boss well, and not fondly! You have the gaming stamina I used to have 10-15 years ago.

My nephew tells me there's a Resident Evil 7 on the way, and that it's going to be more horror-centered again. That's what I'm looking forward too, but if there's a sequel to EW I might wanna play that too.

reply

That's great news about RE7. Hope it's a return to the greatness of RE4 or even Evil Within, in terms of structure and level design. I found RE4 to be truly scary and creepy in parts, while EW (though it had a couple of 'jump scares') is more of a shooter/stealth survival game. For REAL scares, a game like Outlast is much more effective, IMO.

Kind of you to credit my gaming stamina but it's probably due to lack of other things to do, like get a real job....hehe.

I see you also referred to some classic PS2 gaming like Haunting Ground, which is an underrated classic. I never finished it back in the day and hope it gets a digital re-release for PS4. This would be the perfect time to release it, as the genre needs more content!

"This is dead air, Barry....dead air."

reply

Great news indeed!

Kind of you to credit my gaming stamina but it's probably due to lack of other things to do, like get a real job....hehe.

I think we belong to the same species☺, he ,he. I've just been there waay too long, and some health issues has increasingly made it's impact, even on gaming.

Well, I didn't play Haunting ground, but I commented on it. But I'm all for re-makes or the refreshing of good old games. It's pretty much a win win situation, and not the gamble as with the movie remakes. I also heard about a remake of Final Fantasy 7, and that's a dream come true to me. FF7 and Resident Evil was my life back when I got my first PS!

reply

Sadly, I also have health issues in common with you, though I've been on the mend for 7 months now. There was a lot of sitting around following my surgery, so gaming kinda saved me, in a way. Its also tremendously nostalgic for me, given that me and brother sat for hours together trying to solve Zork and Infocom games back in the day. :)

Must confess, could never get into FF. Not a fan of turn-based games but I know FF has a rabid following. I have a bunch of unopened games on my shelf that I must get to: Fallout 4, Arkham Knight, Mad Max, MGS V, etc!

reply

Must good health come our way then 💪! Yes, movies and games can actually be a savior at times.

I remember how peopled either loved FF7 or got bored by it. I got it from a friend who wasn't interested. But I haven't been really into FF since PS1. The games changed somehow. You can look forward to Fallout 4 and Arkham Knight.

reply

I second that emotion concerning health!

I like the concept of FF but just could not get into it. I know it has a rabid following though.
