About this (Spoilers)

This 'docudrama' is as faked as the BLAIR WITCH film. The 'mermaid' on the rocks is clearly CGI (wrong values as it disappears into the water) and the rest of the footage is not real. The fact that this creature is completely missing from the fossil record is never mentioned.

Why is there a list of actors portraying parts if it's real? Too bad. I'd love mermaids to be real. *sigh* There were too many unbelievable holes.

Yes, sonar injures marine mammals. Everything else is fabricated.

Some things you just can't ride around...

Of course it's fake. It's as fake as the first "documentary" they made on this subject.

It's disgusting that this is being played off as real, and the creators should be ashamed of themselves.

While the acting is pretty bad and over the top I will not fault it for trying to creat the illusion that what they are presenting is reality. I don't think they are trying to pull a fast one, but just weave a narrative ala documentary style (mockumentary). It's no different than the "Found Footage" horror movies that try to do the same thing yet you don't see people overly critical over Paranormal Activity, Blair Witch or even Orson Wells radio broadcast of War of the Worlds. I went into it knowing it was fiction and that the creators weren't trying to realistically convince me otherwise so I can't really get behind all the venomous hate.

That being said it wasn't remotely believable, the footage shown wasn't anywhere close to looking realistic and as I have said before they really could have used more natural actors that wouldn't overact. The problem with all the footage they showed was there was always the proverbial money shot, the buildup and then payoff. If you look at legit vids of other discoveries like the footage of the live giant squid taken by that sub there was no suspense, no tension and no big shocking moment. One moment it wasn't there, the next it was. For a mockumentary it just wasn't that good.

honestly the acting in Alien Autopsy (Fact or Fiction?) from '95 was better acted and the vid was less theatric (which is what mockumentary footage should look like).

I think the problem most of us have with this 'mockumentary' is the platform it's shown on. Discovery's channels are normally for serious programmes and they're kinda taking advantage of our trust in their authenticity.

Unfortunately, there's not such thing as serious TV channel anymore. Just look at History channel that constantly now shows the ancient alien and UFO programs, and the Biography channel that show ghosts stories. It's quite sad because I used to watch History channel a lot because I liked their documentaries, now I just feel that if I do, I will just be fed a ton of *beep* and I'm not interested in that. It's all about getting as much audiences as possible nowadays.

When I watched the first show of the mermaids I started watching about 5 minutes after it started so I had no idea if what they're saying was real or not, but it soon became clear that it wasn't. Everything was just ridiculous in the way it was done, from the bad CGI animations to the acting which was way too forced (I guess they picked up the most inexperienced and unknown actors so nobody would recognize them). Still, even though I knew it was fake at that point, I still couldn't enjoy it because I knew I was being told a ton of rubbish. I still liked their arguments though, and the aquatic ape theory and all of the stories they told, I thought they were very interesting.
However, I would rather watch a movie about the same subject than a fake documentary.
