Lack of Common Sense (SPOILERS)

I am so shocked at the lack of common sense portrayed in the main character. I understand that her character was written to be a very innocent, intelligent and sheltered young girl but we can't ignore the times. A young girl so innocent she put herself in a compromising situation where she's lucky she wasn't raped or worse, but has no problem sending risqué photos or having a heated make-out session with her boyfriend in bed? Seriously? Or is too afraid to drink a caffinated soda late into the evening yet she'll shovel down Alprazolam without hesitation? She was very fluent on the computer and wasn't able to find someway to at least TRY and control the situation after it began? I find that hard to believe as well. And I also know from personal experience (a similar situation happened at my high school over 10 years ago) that when solicitation or sexual content of a minor becomes available over the Internet the police, site administration and a full investigation is immediately involved. This chaotic environment at the high school that lasted for months or weeks on end is highly unlikely.

I found the only believable character in the film, both in script and acting to be the best friend, played by Chloe something or another. Her performance in the role of being "mad at friend but not hating her" was right on point. Otherwise the film was entirely too far of a stretch for me to personally relate or believe could happen.

I think Cat was just really naive and still innocent. Like she was so desperate to get help, that she probably didn't think about how dangerous it would be to go to that guy's house and she trusted her boyfriend, so I'm not too surprised she sent pictures cause I'm sure she didn't think he would show the world

I wonder how often she actually checked her "BuddyMe" and why she didn't just try to delete the comments and quickly post a message that it wasn't her and apologize. She was portrayed as being on the internet right after waking up, so I would think she would notice that post right away.

Change her passwords immediately on everything.

This isn't unusual at all if you know kids. I work with a lot of teens and pre-teens right now, and they would do all of the above. Teenagers are naive (which is how they get into compromising situations or do stupid things like sext their boyfriend or girlfriend and expect the pictures not to get out), yet they also are undergoing a sexual awakening and can be as passionate as adults (hormones!)

Or is too afraid to drink a caffinated soda late into the evening yet she'll shovel down Alprazolam without hesitation?

Also common and not just with teens. Lots of people think prescription drugs are safe because doctors prescribe them. Many people use and abuse prescription drugs. Including ones who would never drink caffeine or use a street drug.

This I agree with. Why didn't she change her passwords? I thought maybe she was saving her passwords onto her computer and her mom was able to use her computer to post all the negative stuff, but at the end of the movie it showed that the mom was using her own computer to post it. How did she have all the passwords for her daughter's accounts?

You say naive - I say stupid. You are correct I remember last year there was a girl that was charged with distributing child pornography for 'sexting' her boyfriend.

Especially when the 'responsible adult' in the situation is cheering her on to take the pills.

Parental controls on the site might allow her to have the passwords. But also the girl was clearly way too trusting of strangers, so she probably at some point told her mother her password. And most people with their passwords use a variation of the same password, so it's easier to remember.

Are you kidding me? I know people who have done all of the above, and MORE.

I was lucky growing up, I had a mom who talked to me about the dangers you can get into when you trust strangers. I had friends who wasn't that lucky. Some of them were naive (like Cat was) with the notion "that will never happend to me..." And then there was the people acting out to get attention, messing around with guys older than them, drinking, doing drugs, getting talked into various situations just to be accepted.
Even the "smart" girls can do something stupid like taking a picture that wasn't for everyone to see.

Cat is naive end sheltered, and she trusts her mom. Why wouldn't she, her mother is there to protect her...right?

I thought Cat was inconsistent as a character. She showed a responsible attitude some of the time. Then she would turn into a typical 'life is just a joke' teenager. But 17 is a young age to get it right. Even so, I was surprised that such a smart girl was so powerless to let the situation blow up in her for so long.
