Great comeback for Donnie!

The last few years have been rough for Donnie. Ever Since SPL Killzone and Flashpoint, fans have been anticipating Donnie Yen doing what he does best in a contemporary setting. Special I.D. had its moments but overall was a big let down for fans. Finally, Donnie has released another martial arts movie that is great in many aspects. Personally, it's my favorite movie of Donnie's although it does lack the bone breaking crunch of SPL and Flashpoint. It's difficult to judge if it is not as jaw dropping as SPL and Flashpoint because expectations for the genre have risen so much since Flashpoint's release in 2007. Both the Raid 1 and the Raid 2 have raised the bar immensely. Kung Fu Killer won't blow you away but it will satisfy. It was worth the money to see it.

My fav urban ass kicking flick of Donnie's is Tiger Cage 2, oh yes! I look forward to checking this one out.

Just watched it on Netflix. Thought it was awesome! Loved the action and story.
I've noticed that a lot of Asian movies on Netflix in HD look so damn beautiful.
This was no exception. Was never really a DY fan before this. I am now.

Comeback? Since when has he been a away? For a comeback you need someone to be gone for good. Look at Stalone. Or even better, Arnie. Go back home, DY is one of the most celebrated actors in China, even if the movies he stars in, flop he will still get some movie that will make a blockbuster.

Come back?

I don't agree. This was not even a good movie at all. The fight scenes are great, but nothing new compared to other Donnie Yen films. Wang Baoqiang as a villian was a let down/miscast and overall the acting was campy, characters are one dimensional and the writing was awful.

But back to your point, since SPL and Flashpoint, Donnie Yen has starred in the Ip Man Series and Wu Xia. Although, they are not contemporary films, they are some of the best Donnie Yen films. Go check it out!

He's been one of the top action stars in Hong Kong for the past decade. He's very relevant, I would call this movie more of a "drawback" than "comeback"
