Why This Particular Fan Fiction?

There are so many good continuation fan fictions about the Austen saga!

Why this one? It's not particularly good IMO.

Likely because it was written by PD James, who is rather famous in her own right. I guess the people making the movie either didn't read Death Comes to Pemberley or didn't read P&P or both. They're just figuring that the combination of Austen's characters and a James plot would be unbeatable. Admittedly, that's why I bought the book in the first place. But then I read it, and realized it wasn't going to live up my expectations.

Go on, Julie. Gimme a few spoilers.

I agree, the book was so dull. But for some reason I'm still curious, who knows maybe the script improves on the original.

I hope that seeing it acted out is less boring than reading it? I'm halfway and it regularly puts me to sleep.

I'm about halfway through the book. I enjoy the additional Jane Austen genre, but after reading the Carrie Debries series, this is a disappointment. I agree that, the money people thought that Jane and P. D. were a good combination.

You never know, I have heard of TV scrip writers taking bad source material and making TV gold, we really have to hope for the best. It has to be better than that awful time travel one with that girl with the modern hairstyle that vexed me no end (My teenage daughter loved it though.....)

I recall reading one work years ago that had Elizabeth pondering something so bloomin stupid I couldn't even get past the first page, I am really possessive about these characters, let's hope they don't screw it up!

And a murder mystery always goes down well at Christmas...

Yes, nothing get me a more Christmas-sy mood than a good murder. :)

someone here said it best "because of the P &P and P.D. James connection" everyone hoped for the best. 1st let me tell you that I've read all the PD James books so buying this book hot off the presses was a no brainer for me.
And, secondly there are just a handful of books I never finished in my life; I read anything and everything but this book was too much for me. It was so dull, it hurt to read & I stopped about 1/4 through the book.
Actually with This leading man, I had hoped the TV production would somehow change, enliven & make it interesting. But right off the bat, they have a totally unbelievable & miscast Lizzie. She's a good actress like in Bletchley Circle but she's not even half pretty enough to be our "Lizzie" so wonderfully portrayed by Jennifer Ehle! My goodness, even Kiera Knightly looked the part though she's no actress.

Completely miscast in my humble opinion. I will watch the conclusion because I never finished the book but this is one bad production for Masterpiece. I'm
very disappointed.
