Book Vs Movie (No Spoilers Please)

I am in the middle of watching the series and needless to say I love it. The acting, the clothes, the characterisations and I especially love how the show demonstrates the fact that nothing is as it seems, the ugliness of life under the veneer of propriety and how the past can rear up and show it's ugly head when you least expect it.

I am toying with purchasing the book. I am wondering if it's worth buying. I've seen some complaints but most of them fall into two camps 1. It's not Jane Austen or 2. The book is slow and the mystery is obvious.

I'm not a Jane Austen nut and the mystery is secondary to me. I am more interested in the human drama. That being said is it worth getting?

I think most libraries have P.D. James' books. Could you check out (heh) the book that way to see if it's worth it to you to buy?

Meryl Streep is a shape-shifter.

I love Austen and I've read 99% of everything PD James has written. I did not like this book. James cannot decide what she's writing. Take it out of the library.

I can't say I'm a fan of the author's style...
