Sick of rubbish endings !

This film was great…until the end. We have no idea what she did to him. Did she kill him? Let him go minus an appendage? Also, she implied she killed her mum. What was all that about? We know she had OCD but what happened in her life to make her that way. We also know she killed her dad's beloved dog, which was veyond cruel. Something caused her behaviour, and not just the attack. That might have been the catalyst that pushed her over the edge, but so much more detail was needed. It is lazy writing. Anyone can write a story when you don't have to conclude it.Even if it is only the audience, and not other characters that find out (as we discovered she killed the dog), we need to know.

You know that not everything has to be explained into details sometimes. Most of the times it's thrilling to leave it up to the viewer to draw some conclusions. A movie that holds your hand and explains things over and over is the worst *beep* ever (aka typical American movies made for an audience that doesn't want to think more then necessery).

Dear Kiiiiingofpaaain, here is a story just for you. "One day I went off to work as usual, I had meetings, went to lunch, and then at five o'clock I drove home. I was horrified when I walked in the door and found my husband and children laying in a.... THE END." Aren't I a genius screenwriter??? I bet you loved that story that the typical American wouldn't like because they have to think too much.

That's not how the movie we are talking about ended though. There's a few hints, thus making it very easy to draw a few obvious conclusions.

I agree the ending was rubbish, but disagree that the film was great. I personally felt it was one of the worst movies I've seen in years. I love Rosamund Pike but hope she picks better movies than this in the future because her talent knows no bounds. Open-ended movies are so lazy on the part of the writer/director. Leaving it up to the viewer is ridiculous. Imagine reading a book and there's no ending. It's not being "spoon fed" to actually want a freaking ending. Artsy-fartsy open-ended movies are the lazy writer's way of not finishing their job. "I don't know what to do here, so I'll just let the viewer decide". Stupid! I hope this trend ends, but I doubt it will. So many great movies have been ruined by open-ended, non-endings. 👎👎
