It should have been traditonally animated

To differentiate it from other computer animated movies. Animals talking is just too generic of a concept already. What's the point of Disney keeping Disney Animation Studios when they have Pixar? 

I'd rather have talking animals in animated movies. I miss classical animation a lot too, but I thought this movie did really well in CGI. Also, I'd agree with you about the last part if I actually liked Pixar. I don't really care about Disney's movies either, but I did like two of them in the last several years. I'm glad DAS still exists.

Well, we need to get all the details of the fur and the scales of some animals!

Texture is everything!

Well said.

If it weren't for the CG animation, we wouldn't have those details

You said it yourself pal, we're the guardians of the galaxy!

There was a time I would have agreed and only liked traditional animation. But I will admit this new animation allows more detail seen in fur, hair, ocean etc. So it has grown on me. I am now just keen on the story etc being good.

Variety s the spice of life, and while I like CG I definitely see the cinematic demise of cel animation as a bad thing. Traditional animation allows an individual artist to put more of themself into the character they're drawing, rather than having every every move and gesture discussed and planned by a committee of programmers and economists weeks in advance.

Seeing every fur on Nick's face shouldn't be essential, but given that the other comments on this thread were presumably written by ticket-buying moviegoers, I can see that Disney was simply following the money, if not the artistic integrity.

At least we still have Mr. Pickles...

Take them to the security kitchen!

I thought the movie looked great in CGI. The animation looked beautiful.

Disney for the foreseeable future is done doing hand drawn animated movies and I don't think that they will ever go back to it again (if ever)

reply

Because then they would have to dumb it down with their preconceived notions of what 'belongs' in a 2D animation, like breaking into song, and lazy camerawork and nobody wants that..

Still, I would love to see a traditional animated 'something' set in the Zootopia world. A short film or TV series perhaps?

I would also like to see a return to hand-drawn animation for some Disney films. That was what made the classic and Renaissance era films so great.
