Confirmed! First married gay couple!

It has been confirmed by Jarred Bush that
Bucky and Pronk are a gay married couple in Zootopia! To my knowledge this is the first married gay couple ever in a Disney animated film!

I'm just happy because finally people might stop denying the obvious.

I actually agree! I've been arguing the point that they are two different species but have the same last name living in a small apartment together are very likely a couple since March! Being met with a million excuses of how it'd never happen in a Disney film etc. Even though Byron who created, co-wrote, and co-directed Zootopia is gay and voices one of these characters, with Jared voicing the other! It was always pretty obvious but I'm glad that someone came clean about it rather than just avoiding the question again and again.

Yawn, I'm tired of beating around the bush and taking baby steps. I guess being an anime fan has made me biased, but that medium was taking baby steps 30 years ago and thinks nothing of including gay characters/themes these days.

It is a step in the right direction.

And for what it's worth I do remember a time when no one would have anything to do with the gay community but Disney welcomed gay family's into their parks and told everyone that "all" families are welcome! And even though they had to deal with a huge backlash that continues to this day they never backed off from it! Even recently they gained 100% on Human Rights Campaign list of best places to work for LGBT persons eleven years in a row and they made a post on their official Twitter stating that they were proud to welcome everyone! Heck, even Byron Howard who created, co-wrote and co-directed Zootopia is gay and was able to say he was with out fear of losing his job.

I've never forgotten this and even if I don't agree with every single decision Disney Parks or the Disney Company makes I greatly respect them for welcoming the gay community long before it was popular to do so.

*yawns harder* Anime ain't got nothing on furry art and fiction, which is gay (and every other orientation) in giant, flying leaps and bounds and there's even a whole lot that's specifically about Zootopia.

The point isn't "ZOMG GAY!!!!!11!!" the point is it's Disney. It's like getting that shy kid at school to admit he has a crush on someone. It's not the crush that's important, it's who has the crush.

I am not surprised. I sided with those that said they were a gay couple. But I doubt they be as bold as to ever say you see who symbolizes who by looking at the cartoon animals in the Song of the South. They would never want to say prey animals represent nonwhite people.

Disney indoctrinating kids to think that mental illness is normal. I honestly fear for society and where it's heading....

Gay marriage is not in the Bible, you can't just construct a new rule when it's a flagrant spit in the face of true religion.

First off I'm gay, secondary I've been with my partner for over ten years, thirdly I'm not Christian and could care less what Christians think, fourthly you'd likely had the same issues with interracial couples before this (you might still), fifthly teaching kids to be tolerant to others different from themselves is both good for them and the future of society, and lastly trolling or truly a Christian makes no difference, if you don't want to marry someone of the same sex don't! It changes nothing what so ever in your life!

Please kindly piss off now.

reply

You didn't need to say all that. Like they said gay marriage is not in the Bible like that implies it shouldn't be here either, but they make no mention of computers or electricity not being in the Bible, conveniently.

That and I'm pretty sure they're a troll.

I never take anything religious people say seriously, not only because I am neither religious or spiritual myself, but also because I know from first hand experience that a lot of you people rarely practice what you preach and BOY do you LOVE to preach, it makes you guys feel better about yourselves when you're doing or saying things you know your own religion is against.

Disney indoctrinating kids to think that mental illness is normal.
Many of the gays I know are, if you put them through a double blind study, among the most well-adjusted people. What's mentally ill is the effort to live a lie forced on them by haters.
Gay marriage is not in the Bible,
If you want us to respect the Bible as the Inerrant Word of God, wouldn't you want us to ignore passages which can only be explained as the human hatreds picked up when the Divine Word was heard through human ears and has picked up human errors.

That is wonderful news. 😃 Disney needs more homosexual characters and I am hoping they go through with giving Elsa a female love interest in Frozen 2 and a film about a male character with a male love interest so young homosexual children have characters they can look up to too and see they are no different than anybody else but the homophobes are going to complain about it just like they will with this and claim it is being forced on them and it is some agenda to wipe out heterosexuals and turn everybody gay. Literally every movie and TV show that have homosexual characters in them now has homophobes chucking tantrums over it on these boards (like Supergirl and Gotham) and there are movies and TV shows in development that have announced they are going to have homosexual characters in them that already have complaints WAY before they have even aired.

I do not mind gay characters. In fact the walking dead gay characters (for example) are well made. I have no problem with these two characters being gay in zootopia. Why not? The point is be with who you want. If Judy and Nick want to be togeather so be it. But let us be fair most children are not sexual and that ten year old with the crush is high likely crushing on someone of the opposite gender. Also not everyone has a high sex drive where sex is the first on the list. For example is Basil from the Great mouse detective gay or a man married to his work. I think it is the latter. Other people may have issues to deal with. Moana is a teenager but her story was about needing to do something. Sometimes being yourself may be about doing something that does not invole your sexuality. What will Elsa have to deal with? Will she ever even get married? Those two questions are about what the reality for this character may mean.

I want to bring up a couple of things here. And I'll speak as a middle aged gay man. Being gay is more than just sex. Infact you can be gay and never actually be sexual with anyone. It's more so simply who you are and who you love.

I was forced into dating females when I was younger myself but never once did I actually feel anything other than just friendship from them, nor have I ever had a crush on the opposite sex. This goes back as far as I can remember.

No one ever had any issues with every single "princess" goal of finding a young rich prince to marry in practically every single fairytale animated film ever made. And I don't believe characters having sex ever crossed anyone's mind about any of these films.

reply

No stop, stop stop stop, I'm not a homophobe but I really REALLY don't appreciate it when TV shows or movies make characters gay purely for fan-service. It's not right and it needs to be more natural than forced. Besides if they were to make something upfront homosexual in this day and age there would be MASSIVE outrage from millions of people. Society is not yet read to handle a main character being gay in a Disney film just yet. Give it a few more years and then we'll try but for now it's a terrible idea.

Blah blah blah treat us equally by giving us special treatment always. We're going to boycott anyone and everything Republican, but don't you dare not violate your religious beliefs by not baking our cake!

The Alt-Right must really be butt-hurt over Zootopia if you're trolling.
