On the two movies versus the current rating and USA version.

First off, do not believe the reviews these movies are at worst 3-4 (if you hate the genre) and at best 8'ish (if you praise it wildly).
I do not care for criminals, I care for movies and the elements of creating one while watching them.
The Rise of the Krays (2015) 6-7/10
The Fall of the Krays (2016) 5-6/10

If you do like crime/action/thriller they are ever so slightly above the average crime movie.
The ratings are low and atleast 1 point below (each) where it will land (is my educated assessment). They have the classical cinematography that is slightly warm with alot of settings in classical british hotel and bars. With the dressed up chavs this makes for an alot more realistic feeling that Legends.
Oh right and the difference in age between established criminals that has trailed off and new ones is fresh (not always used) and good to see.

Regarding the realism of the story I don't have much to say as it's nothing I've followed previously (might have seen previous movies around them, but nothing that directly comes to mind). So forgive ignorance regarding the factual sides of events in the story.

For me these two definitively beat the Hollywood version (Legend 2015). Somehow it seems like European movies tend to get alot harsher criticism on IMDb while movies from USA gets buffed ratings..? I would gladly see this in the cinema while I would not go to the cinema and watch Legends (2015) which for me is over the top. Hollywood makes other types of movies better, they should focus on those areas (raw action, action-comedy, american crime, Sci-Fi etc).
As far as I'm concerned it might (probably due to the similarity) be the same writer/script (informally) that has been used.

Ignorance is only a bliss if you haven't reached awareness.

Are you sure that "Legend" is a Hollywood production? It didn't really look or feel like one. And Hollywood rarely makes films that obviously won't make money at the box office, like this one. As far as quality goes, I quite liked the 'look' of both "Legend" and "Rise of the Krays,' however I found Hardy's portrayal of both brothers excellent, whereas the two actors who played the brothers in "Rise" were very unconvincing, and they merely looked like two soft guys playing at being hard nuts and failing miserably. So I prefer the Tom Hardy version, as these two twats ruined the Brit production.

I think it is yes, from the beginning it was due to skimming the companies and logical reasoning but here you go:

Production companies

Cross Creek Pictures (USA)
A relatively new company (might be an offshoot) located in Hollywood, they've done several larger movies.
Started 2009 by Timmy Thompson, Tyler Thompson and Brian Oliver.
They work with Universal and Sony Pictures.

Working Title Films (GB)
Started 1983, led by Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner
They work with Universal.

Anton Capital Entertainment (GB)
Started in 2011 (Bloomberg).
Is a Luxembourg-based "media investment company".
They work with Studiocanal, which is a part of Canal+ Group which is owned by Vivendi (formerly known as Vivendi Universal).
Vivendi Universal SA came to be 2000 12 08, when Vivendi merged with the Canal+ networks. They also aquired Seagram Company Ltd, owner of Universal Studios. It sold the majority of it but retained 20%.

When available i used the info on official sites, some of the info comes from wikipedia though, i was not in the mood to take a deep look in it - I hope you excuse that, if you want more info please knock yourself out and post it aswell.

I think it's a similar pair of movies like: Arn (2007) and The Kingdom (2007) is, not officially from the same source but unofficially it's very likely (regarding the example mentioned the writer of the books has stated there was a Hollywood version aswell, the books sold very well in Scandinavia and also partly abroad).
