'You never hear the one that gets you'

This is a phrase from military circles. It refers to the fact that when you hear the sound of a bullet being fired, it has already hit its target. This is due to the fact that the projectile travels faster than the speed of sound - it will hit you before hear it. To help confirm the number and order of the shots, consider that Connelly said he heard a shot and then turned - the first shot had already found it's target whatever that may have been before he turned. By the time he thought about turning back, the second shot was on it's was or had already hit Kennedy and him. Thoughts?

Yes-Connelly had it right.

So did Yarborough riding a few cars back....he thought it strange to have smelled gunsmoke right there on street level...so
The Smoking Gun theory does seem plausible. One Secret Service agent said there was a machine gun right behind Kennedy in the backup car, LOADED--that makes sense.
But in Agt Hickey's statement, he said he had to load it first. That sounds like covering his tracks. Why would they have an unloaded machine gun there to protect against any sudden hostile fire? If this horrible mistake did happen, it also makes sense how the Secret Service acted--they did not want an autopsy performed, showing one of their bullets in the president's head. They needed time.

That first bullet is also a mystery --most investigators believe that first shot missed--it ricocheted off the street--that's several feet from Kennedy--how did that happen? Some believe a tree branch altered the trajectory.
And if Oswald acted alone...he had to see a bullet he didn't fire hit the president.

that's why ruby killed oswald... they couldn't let oswald testify....

The only reason it seems plausible is because, first the author of the book, and then the producers of the documentary, have moved Connolly and the jump seat he was sitting on much further inboard than he really was. In the photograph of the actual jump seats in the documentary, it is clear that they are only about one inch from the interior side of the car, yet seconds later in their computer graphic image, they move the position of the seats to about eight inches from the interior side. Look at all the photos and movies taken that day and it's obvious that Connolly was directly in front of Kennedy, not towards the center of the car.

What I liked most about this is that while the documentary does mention that the author of the book, his publisher and the publisher of the audio book were all sued by Hickey and settled, they don't say that the author had to make a formal apology and retraction.

So much for this one.

On a hot summer night, would you offer your throat to the wolf with the red roses?

bkstosell;

I'm not quite sure what you're talking about. The photo posted in this very thread shows, quiite clearly, that the Governor was not directly in front of the President.

They had a 30 cal machine gun in the car behind JFK , must have been crowded in there !

That was my point , an automatic rifle is not a machine gun , the post above quoted an agent saying the machine gun they had in the automobile was not loaded ... the smallest machine gun at the time would be a 30-cal...very tight fit in the back of an automobile .

Your statement and facts on that issue are correct. Both confirmed by science, and the late Governor who never changed his position until the day of his death.

You're right all the way ! This is also confirmed in the famous Robert Croft picture (see below)taken right after the first shot that missed, as the limousine had just turned on Elm street.

Look at Connally's worried expression (he had been smiling during the whole parade until then) !! An avid hunter, he KNOWS that what he has just heard is a rifle shot (but Kennedy and Jackie don't and they're still all smiles). Obviously that was the first shot that missed, since Kennedy shows no sign of being hit ... (so this was probably the shot that ricocheted way down Main street and wounded witness James Tague)

Seconds later, Kennedy AND Connally will both be hit by the not-so-magic bullet (the Zapruder film clearly shows them reacting to it at the exact same time !).

Then the fatal head shot from he front ...

the position of hickey would have his shot going through their windscreen to hit JFK
