Baffled By The Ending

So was it all a dream while Melody was unconscious following the road accident?

Or did she slip through some kind of rip in reality to another dimension where they never went to the island?

And what did the banshee have to do with anything? She didn’t seem to fit with all the Norse mythology. I’m not even sure if she was a malevolent spirit or some kind of protector against the demon.

Anyone got it sussed?

My take on it was that it was all a dream following the accident.

Re: the banshee, I think she found the victims with her light and then screamed for the monster to come. Melody played dead in front of her so obviously she was afraid of her.

What I don't understand is why they showed the boat operator with a little smirk at the end. If it was a dream - and I do think it was - why show him as she had never actually met him. He brought them to the island during the dream. It could be just a flaw in the film. So many movies nowadays have flaws.

I'm curious whether anyone else might have any thoughts to share on the ending.

I'm adding something here which I think is another flaw. At the end, at the accident site, the dog from her dream comes running up to her and she calls him Chuck, as though she knew him. We never saw that dog until they were on the island. How is it that a dog she knows winds up at the accident scene?
