Yes there are some sad scenes but overall it is uplifting and emotionally rewarding.
Chess is the back drop for showing courage through and overcoming some tough life lessons.
Some people may draw comparisons with Searching For Bobby Fischer and with McFarland, USA.
Fair enough.
Also, it is good to see young Rico Rodriguez playing something a little more dramatic than his Manny on Modern Family.
