Cant just end like this

There are so many unanswered questions and lose ends like will Dr Gallinger go unpunished, what will Barrow do with the radiation poisoning he just picked up, and Dr Edwards what will become of him. There needs to be just one more season that solves all this I feel like they did this in purpose to get us begging for more, tell me what you think will happen

I want to see more Bertivieve, and see some of the fallout from Anne Chickering's death. I'd also like more background on Algie and Opal. She just kind of showed up and we don't know how they met or what caused them to separate. And Lucy. I'd like for her to wake up and see what she's become. Her parting words to her father left me cold.

The show ended perfectly. We don't need to see every character until their final death - it's not necessary.

-Thackery died, but got to spend to eternity with Abigail.
-Edwards went on to be a leading psychologist, specializing in addiction.
-Barrow seemingly got away with everything, but karma gets the last laugh, as his mistress cleans him out of his money, and he dies from radiation due to his X-ray obsession.
-Cornelia started a new life in Australia, working as a humanitarian, helping the develop the modern face of Australia.
-Lucy married Henry Robertson, and they went on to conquer the world at the expense of more lives.
-Bertie became lead surgeon at the Knick, following in Thackery's footsteps. He married Genevieve, who documented his future work.
-Gallinger took his wife's sister (Dororthy) to Germany, where he lectured right up to the Third Reich. He was killed in 1942 when a car he was riding in was attacked by British soldiers.
-Eleanor spent the rest of her life in a mental institution, giving toothless fellatio.
-Sister Harriet and Cleary married. They continued their work in sex education and prevention.
-Phillip Showalter died of a drug overdose while having a rowdy night with prostitutes in Ohio.

Thank you mountainbiker25! That was an accurate and concise explenation of the events that took place after the last episode. I think I (we?) had a pretty darn good idea of the fate of the key players in the show, and that is a testament to the writers. However, I clicked on this post because I too wanted just a *bit* more to let the rest be "history".

You provided exactly the summary I was looking for. Thank you. Hopefully some others here actually read it.

Sometimes when a TV series ends there is a made for TV movie to tie the loose ends up more. I don't see that happening here. I imagine Clive Owens has already moved on to new projects and he was the star despite having some really good co actors.

I don't know everything. Neither does anyone else

I don't get it, if Season 2 was the last one they would have announced it ahead of its premiere.

It was written way early on as open-ended for obvious reasons. Even at the time of my posting a year ago, we knew Clive Owen is likely done with the show - on contractual basis he only agreed to two years.

Soderbergh explained. “We had this all planned out very clearly from the very beginning.”

Including Thackery’s death? “Absolutely,” he replied. “I just said [to Owen early on], ‘If it matters to you, we are going to kill you at the end of Season 2 just so you know.’ He was like, ‘Okay. Good to know.’"

I don’t know where it’s going to land exactly because we did kill off our main character.

Just finished Season 2 last night. Loved your summary of what happened to everyone after it ended. Just wonderful!

Season 1 was great, but Season 2 ended up as good, maybe better?

I think I'll have to rewatch the show sometime. Planning on gifting it this year.

Of course Gallinger is going to get away with it, it's 1902.

Barrow will likely die, hopefully after Junia runs off with all the assets he just signed over into her name.

Edwards will start wearing an eyepatch and begin going by Algie Crow's Eye.

I'll pump her full of motley seed, until she pops out a little me! -Shagwell

What do you mean will Dr Gallinger go unpunished?? He didn't do anything wrong both morally, ethically and legally at the time..

I don't see why he should be punished at all

reply

The PC-police time machine will get to him eventually. I wonder if the season 2 DVD will have an opening disclaimer by Whoopie Goldberg about the evils of eugenics?

The Knick became a 'safe space'. That's really why he had to leave for Germany.

While I agree that he will probably never be "punished," it is outrageous to say that he didn't do anything wrong morally or ethically. Plenty of people then were capable of understanding how wrong forced serialization for the cause of white supremacy (or for any other reason) was--we didn't all just wake up and develop consciences around 1972. Just because there was more ignorance about it then (and it may not have been illegal yet) doesn't mean there weren't plenty of people who already understood that it was wrong.

Here is what Eric Johnson (who plays Dr. Everett Gallinger) says about whether or not his character is a good person: "Just in case we're wondering how you need to feel about my character, Gallinger learns about Eugenics, takes the message to Europe--specifically TO GERMANY. So in the world of The Knick, Gallinger is somehow responsible for the Holocaust." (This is from the Season 2 DVD extras.)

It seems pretty clear to me that the people making the show intended for Gallinger to be understood as a villain.

Bertie's Mom had know chance of survival, Bertie probably wishes he had never open her up. But in his mind he had too try.His Father being a Doctor in the late 19 th Century thought their might be a chance his Wife would come through surgery , regrettably Ann's tissue in her esophagus was too cancerous. I don't feel Bertie did anything wrong .It was his Mother and she was suffering at least She died on table and didn't go home to prolong suffering death.

Radiation poisoning?! Barrow has radiation poisoning? I thought he got a bad case of syphilis for screwing that hooker one too many times.

reply

Oh yes, you might be right! No, you definitely are right! Otherwise why would they perform that whole scene (Birtie running all the way to get the adrenaline and stick it (in the heart?) as with the rabbit... Good point!

reply

It's a moot point, anyway. It's already been revealed that if this show continues, the third season will center around different characters than the first two seasons, but bizarrely could possibly have the same cast playing new characters. http://variety.com/2016/tv/news/the-knick-season-three-steven-soderbergh-1201675175/

reply

Is it so bizarre? It has worked for American Horror Story -- not that it is in the same league as The Knick. I think people would accept having the same cast or a different one in a different time period.

I had no idea that season 2 would be the last of this time period story, but i think
the writers did a great job of wrapping everything up in a satisfactory way.
