Name a single better show than Knick. Protip: you can't

Is it really the end? I loved first season and second one was even better. All characters are despicable (well maybe except birdy). And it is fun to watch, top notch acting and flawless plot unlike with any other show in 2014 or 2015.

It is just seems even ahead of its time since people so much dumbed down to pathetic kid shows running around in capes or cringe worthy acting that they can not appreciate a good serious acting and serious stories.

And it is 100 percent medically accurate too. Wow, it is probably the best television after Breaking Bad.

But better for it to end now than leave answers unanswered.

Fargo is at least just as good. The Wire could arguably be a better show. Nothing currently airing beats The Knick though, imo.

Fargo
Vikings
Musketeers
Flash
Banshee
Leftovers
Flash
Grimm
Ray Donovan
If I included shows already cancelled, the list would run dozens more. It's a great show but NOWHERE near the best.

reply

All those shows except Ray Donovan and THIS SEASON'S Fargo COMPLETELY SUCK!

No wonder this show is failing. Once you develop a taste for fast food you can no longer stomach eating in a decent restaurant and that is what the public has done

Acid-Reflex....could be an age-related thing too. But I largely agree with you.

I like your analogy but in that list I can vouch for the Leftovers as being the only singularity. It's pretty much the opposite of fast food, as far from quick and easily consumed cheap entertainment as possible. I cant really say the same about the others, including Fargo and the Knick - they are good in their own ways, but in the end, I wouldn't spend time pondering Fargo's parables or the Knick's drama. I know that people generally don't read Kierkegaard but for those who do (or somehow heard of him), as far as television goes, the mix of Absurdism with Existential dreads in the Leftovers really struck a note and made it the only running TVshow that fills this niche (a serial drama with thematic intersection of philosophy, theology and psychology while using a ridiculously easy to follow and nonstandard storytelling).

Haha, Acid_Reflex....

Ray Donovan is one of the cheesiest series i've ever seen. I couldn't even make it through season 2.

You shouldn't throw stones when you live in a glass house. Obviously your tastes aren't as seasoned as you claim them to be.

If the OP had said this after Season #1, I would have agreed with him. But Season #2 wasn't very good, IMO. So I can name plenty of better shows.

I just assumed they would do a Season #3, although if they don't, I won't be incredibly disappointed, especially if Clive Owen doesn't come back.

I realize that "The Knick" boards will be slanted with people who love the show. But I found this year to be a big disappointment.

it's not the end

reply

Why do you think it's the end? Has there been reports that this will be the last season?

I really was a bit surprised to see Clive Owen committed to a TV program, even a cable one. But I guess if you're given producer credits and creative input, and the price is right, any role can be up for grabs...

A lot of this probably has to do with the director who is a phenom in his own right and I don't think I have ever seen a director of his caliber direct two complete seasons of an entire series before.

This alone should have given the series a nod at least but if it doesn't have zombies or vampires who is going to notice it these days?

In my opinion it's a toss up between The Leftovers, The Americans, and The Knick. True Detective would have been there but season 2...oh dear...

reply

I love The Leftovers (storywise and acting), too. But cinematography and score in "The Knick" stand far above anything I've seen on TV...

reply

Fargo, season 2.

reply

nope.

reply

Only thing that is just as good would probably be the leftovers and the first season of true detective

reply

I hate to say "better" straight up, because I love this show! But in my honest opinion, the early seasons of Dexter were more addictive than The Knick lol
