I may pick up the DVD set for S.1 ... but was wondering whether this is something that only a blood & viscera-loving medical resident could love?

No its not all medical..its got lots of raunchy, sexy, crazy themes/side stories that take place outside of the Knick.. but they do showcase new and amazing medical feats from that era. ;)

Good way of putting it, I hated the sweet Nurse Lucy turned into a needy lover, murderer, and thinks to survive you have to play dirty.
