Just like an 80's version of Dazed & Confused, except it isn't funny!

Swing and a miss!! Boy, what a shockingly bad offering from Linklater. I just saw it listed on Amazon and went for it. Must have been straight to video? This thing never got off the ground. Other than the lead, all of the characters were generic versions of Otter from Animal House; obnoxious, crude, overly confident and annoying, sans the clever lines, warmth and charm of Tim Matheson.

I loved Otter, but in all his BS he WAS likeable. These guys are generic dullards whose character development is limited to a couple cliché (really cliché) one-liners that sound like they were written by a 10 year old or recycled from other coming of age movies that bombed. There was actually a reference to "Five Knuckle Shuffle"? I'm supposed to laugh at that, and then I need one of the actors to make the motion to explain it to the audience? Why not just use the term "over the shoulder bolder holder" as long as we're going full retard.

It is ass-puckering painful watching an actor behave smug and confident with a wry smile while delivering tired, uninspired lines with zero charm that are below the poverty line with regard to cleverness and originality.

Then let's just throw in the useless love story and then it ends with the lead (I can't even remember his name I was so uninterested at that point) just going to sleep in his class.

"Everybody Wants Some" - A new category of film: Comedies that aren't funny.

You complained about the lines in this movie but only give one example, the one about the five knuckle shuffle. You might have missed the characterization going on in that scene. It was the douchebag character McReynolds who used the cliche, and it was the clueless freshman Alex Brumley who needed it explained to him. It wasn't a witty pick up line told with a confident wry smile. It was a small line to show an interaction between a veteran and a new guy.
In other parts of the movie there were some clever lines, sometimes kind of original. Particularly from Finnegan: "we want to see All of you there", "average cock", "cunnilinguist", the mud wrestling pep talk about regret, etc

dazed and confused was funny this movie wasn't and its not a straight to video film. It showed in theaters.

I sure thought this was far less than Dazed. I liked the music in both however. And I'd agree that the character that I would have liked to have gotten to know better was Finnegan. But none had an opportunity to shine as fully evolved. Which is quite the counter point to Dazed, where each character was clearly defined and truly friend like. Thus creating an opportunity for better and more poignant humor.

Not funny, interesting, or engaging. Everything Dazed was, this wasn't.

I agree! I was looking forward to the film, but what a let down. I liked the idea of the love story but there was so much unnecessary crap that they decided to wait until the end to have anything interesting happen.

The name of this movie should be: "Bunch of guys talking *beep*
