Jake isn't the new Pink. He's the new...

Mitch Kramer. Am I the only one who thinks this was essentially meant to be an actual sequel once upon a time? Or do you think I'm wrong?

It was never meant to be an actual sequel. By the time Linklater was writing this he had brushed off making Dazed 2. He said it was a standalone. But its clear for certain that Jake is Mitch, and in turn they are both representations of RL. They are both the protagonist characters respectively, and are in brand new situations in which they mostly sit back and observe, thus we get our narrative.

jake is definetly mitch especially wearing the shirt when he first enters sound machine. however he is also pink because he is talking about life and such which mitch wouldnt be able to handle.

Yup. Jake was Mitch. And you notice Mitch would not have been able to carry Dazed. Pink of course could. Finnegan was the only character that I actually would have enjoyed becoming more 3 dimensional. But this was a group movie, not the individual and small group dynamics that really allowed Dazed to succeed. As a guy, I get that the group scenes rang true. I also realize there is little substance during those events. Just pecking order challenges and raggin' on each other. Which makes for a far less captivating film.
