no taking girls to the upstairs bedrooms

what would be the purpose of having such a rule? it's ok to have them downstairs, and there's even a sex room downstairs.

reply

Just another example of a either dumb or good rule (depending on who you are) lazily enforced by ignorant authority figures. Thats how I translated stuff like that back in my day

I thought it was interesting that in a scene early in the movie, Jake wants to take a girl to his room, but his roommate Beuter is there with two of his friends. Beuter gives Jake a hard time about bringing a girl in there, even saying something about the coach saying it was against the rules. So, unfortunately, Jake couldn't even convince his roommate to let the "rule" slide.

And then that potentially interesting tension is completely abandoned as Beuter disappears for most of the rest of the movie and the incident is never mentioned again.

I took it as TX orthodoxy. You have upstanding rules to keep parents happy, and just ignore them to keep students happy.
