What is significance of name Beuter?

Can somebody enlighten this Aussie as to the significance of the nickname Beuter for someone with what I take to be a southern accent?

reply

There was no signifigance. A term for a guy who comes from the farm to the big city is either a "hayseed" or a "greenhorn". Both are colloquialisms from WAY back. In this movie whoever the writer was wanted to be "cute" and come up with their own name for a country boy. Only God knows why they chose Beuter.
This is kind of like the way Maya calls Lucas "Huckleberry" on Girl Meets World. Although hers is kind of a play on the nickname in the movie "Tombstone" [/i]( "I'll be your Huckleberry" )[/i]

It just sounds like a really silly hillbilly type name that's why it's funny.

Yes, exactly! The name Beuter just gives you an even bigger impression of the guy just falling off the turnip truck, on his way from the farm. A guy who is very innocent, not sophisticated in any way.

I didn't find it funny. Now, Ben Stein reading "Bueller...Bueller...Bueller" that's funny.

It could be a cross between Buford T. Justice from Smokey and the Bandit and Cooter Davenport from Dukes of Hazzard, two very hillbilly characters from pop culture at the time.
