Everybody Wants Dull

Dazed And Confused was chock full of well-written interesting and funny varied characters, good and bad, that you actually cared about and felt like you were hanging out with. In every scene, there was something engaging that occurred that propelled the narrative forward, kept your interest going and brought you closer to their world. Everybody Wants Some was just a group of uninteresting jocks (looking like they were in their mid to late 30s for some reason) plopped into a picture-perfect 80s setting, reading what sounded like a rough outline of a script. No natural dialogue, just stilted conversation that sounded almost like a high school play. I wished Linklater spent half as much time on the script as he did getting the look of the film right.

To be honest, I completely agree with you.

I'm really just done with all the *beep* hate on this movie, especially all of the posts which have surfaced just within the last few days. Enough already! This movie was great fun, upbeat, had me smiling every minute of it. If you didn't like it, why even waste the energy posting on this board? I salute Richard Linklater, I thought this film was brilliant, saw it multiple times in the theatre!

reply

I take it you're new to IMDB? People tend to voice their opinions about film here, good and bad.

reply

Movie was *beep* awesome.

reply

that's your opinion dip shyt....this movie *beep* sucked.

reply

that is your opinion, this movie rocked, fückboy.

reply

Hey how about we compromise.
it was mediocre :)

reply

How boring would it be if all you read on here were people heaping praised on a movie? The movie worked for you. Great. I'm glad. Some of us weren't as captivated. I come here to discuss not only movies I like, but movies that I didn't. In this case I was intrigued because I felt like the movie never drew me in and wanted to see if there were others that felt the same.

reply

You know...I agree with you...this movie was good and I don't understand anyone who didn't like it.

HOWEVER HOWEVER HOWEVER I am SO sick of comments like yours. I cannot even BEGIN to fathom the amount of times I have read something to the effect of: "If you don't like (insert name of movie, video game, book, song, person, etc.) then why are you even on this board/posting this comment/wasting your breath/etc? Go away!"

FIRST and FOREMOST. Don't act like for one second that every comment you've ever made on IMDb (unless you are brand new to here) has been in the affirmative for a movie, tv show, actor, etc. I guarantee I could go down your list of comments and quickly find you trashing something you didn't like.

SECONDLY, there is nothing wrong with being critical. THAT'S WHAT WEBSITES LIKE THIS ARE FOR! So, in your opinion, no one should ever write a negative movie review? How about this: do you think people should not write reviews for products they didn't like that they got from Amazon? Do you really want to only read positive reviews? What about this: do you and your friends and family share the same opinion on every single issue in life and when you don't you just drop the subject?

Bottom line, someone wants to trash a movie (even in this case when they are clearly wrong as this is a good movie) then this board is EXACTLY where they should be doing that trashing. So get over it. WHEW!

Listen up Fives...a Ten is speaking.

hoochiemoochie i feel like ive seen people say what you said, but you said it extremely well. the caps could have been limited.

for my opinion, i thought the film was entertaining. dazed and confused was not popular until almost ten years after it came out.

reply

My favorite comments on the boards after "Looks like" is the amazingly pieced together "why waste energy posting if you didn't like it."
I love how people get all butt hurt that not everyone likes a movie they did. Last I checked these boards were for discussion. You can talk about if and why you enjoyed or did not enjoy a movie. They don't exist purely to slurp the marble bag of the film maker, actors, and those who share the same opinions.
P.S. I enjoyed the movie, nowhere near as much as Dazed and Confused because I don't think the characters were developed as much, but it was still a fun, well directed movie. But I can see how people may not have felt the same.

"I'm sorry that the pretzel fell out.I honestly don't know how long it was in my underpants."

I'm done with the BS from movie viewers like you who worship at the alter of Linklater's cock! This movie stunk. And was not brilliant. It was a major blemish on Linklater's movie career and he's directed and made much better films than this piece of drivel. You're an idiot for paying to see this film multiple times in a movie theater.

reply

I could really care less what you think, I LOVED this movie!

reply

I do not believe for even 1 second that anyone went to see this movie several times in a theater.

It's just THAT bad.

reply

'Everybody Wants Dull'? Is that the best you could come up with? The film was *beep* great.

reply

AGREE!! There is not one character thats likeable. I don't know how this got such a high rating. Nothing special.

reply

Good call. High school play is exactly what I was thinking throughout the movie. Boring script and forced acting.

reply

You can really tell who in here knows anything about storytelling, character development, narrative, conflict and the premise of a story arc.

This film was devoid of each one of these elements. Was it charming? ehhh, probably more so for some than others... but this was masturbatory effort by Linklater that was missing virtually every important mechanism of an effective 'coming of age" story.

Spot on.

Everybody Wants Some was the 14th Linklater film I watched. I had enjoyed them all, and loved a few (the before films, boyhood, tape, slacker, dazed and scanner darkly) but I couldn't even sit through this.

I tried three times because I thought it might have been me or my mood holding me back from getting into it. Every time though I just ended up staring at the screen blankly, not even a smile on face and zero reason to care about anything I was seeing.

I wonder why some of us just didn't feel it...

I'm in my late 40s, I doubt I'm going to be any less annoyed by these poorly underwritten characters in my late 60s.
