What Does “Ad Astra” Mean Anyway?

That & I’d like the answer to a few other things. Such as how is it that Roy didn’t see any prison time upon his return to Earth? That or why want he killed outright upon landing?

Btw since was it normal practice to have knife blade weapons just handily in reach in air locks? Did they have clubs & whips too? Do Astronauts usually expect unwanted guests in space? I’m stymied by that.

But then again who knew the moon had bad neighborhoods? God that sucks! Anyone else?

I think it is Latin for “to the stars”.

You are correct on the meaning of ad astra.

I haven't seen the film, so I can't answer the OPs other questions.

Thank you, you two. Was wondering about that.

there's is not really any answers to most of your questions, because this film is so filled with nonsensery, there is just no answer. the nonsense creates far more head scratching questions than it answers and is not worth the mental time, trying to figure out that it simply was not thought through.

movie: puts square tires on a bicycle...
audience: but... that doesn't work. and doesn't have anything to do with the story???
movie: um.... .... "art"? I guess. I dunno, it was just fun for me

I think it’s short for Add Asterisk, as in

*caution, film may induce extreme drowsiness in discerning viewers

Ad nauseum, ad infinitum, to the point of being sick, to infinity ... Ad Astra - to the stars.

There is a lot to criticize here. I am seeing it on HBO now and I'm beginning to like the last part after a very slow and mostly ridiculous setup.
