I really enjoyed this (spoilers)
'Ad Astra' was a riff on Joseph Conrad's "Heart of Darkness", a look at the bonds between fathers and sons and a space adventure where Brad Pitt fights pirates and evil monkeys in zero gravity. I enjoyed that mix of dour seriousness and over-the-top silliness, which seemed to be a result of the writing styles of James Grey and Ethan Gross being slammed together.
The futuristic sci-fi world, Max Richter's score and Hoyte van Hoytema's cinematography were also stunningly executed.
The only aspect I'm on the fence about is Pitt's voiceover ... it's a little too 'Blade Runner Theatrical Cut', i.e. seemingly included for moviegoers who aren't feeling up to a mood cinematic challenge.
