The kiss...

No this is not just me having a girly moment...but when (sort of spoiler) Gabriel and Bathsheba kiss at the end, did anyone else cry? I legit lost my s&*$. I exhaled and couldn't breathe for like another 15 seconds. The build up and pay off was incredible! I'm listening to an interview where they're talking about this moment (link below) but I wanted to post here because I felt initially that my reaction was a bit ridiculous. Anyone else??

I think one of the biggest reasons I cried so much was also because of the score. The way Craig Armstrong played it so subtly by finally resolving the theme and chord, but doing so gently and quietly, was brilliant. It wasn't some over the top string swell full of harp and woodwinds, which don't get me wrong...works when it's appropriate, but gets overused far too often. This was so smart and SO beautiful.

Anyways, here's the link to the interview w/ Matthias Schoenaerts and Thomas Vinterberg. I'll stop rambling, have a listen/watch!

I loved it, for a moment there I really believed he would walk away, so in a sense it was a really surprising ending and I was glad she finally realized what she had missed on.

reply

Yes! I was so happy when she finally went to him, but then felt such terror that it would end with him saying goodbye. Beautifully acted; just a wonderful movie.

reply

I also thought he might walk away :)

I started bawling my eyes out.

The whole uniting scene at the end is my favorite scene from any movie this year. The acting, the dialogue, the wonderful chemistry between Carey Mulligan and Matthias Schoenarts, and Craig Armstrong's beautiful score all gave this scene so much passion and emotion. I've never read the book before, but I was thoroughly impressed with this film, the best period piece romantic drama I've seen in many years.

Snowbunnie
A wonderful adaptation, especially the ending.
The book has Bathsheba going to Gabriel's cottage to stop him from leaving as she realizes she cannot do without him, doesn't wish to do without him.
The words they exchange are the same but used to greater effect in the closing scene of the movie, which is the ultimate romantic culmination for Bathsheba and Gabriel.
MUCH better realized in the movie than the book!
Loved it. Schoenearts and Mulligan were perfect.
The entire score of the movie is wonderful and a perfect fit.

Just watched this, and I was hysterically crying at the end. When Gabriel and Bathsheba started to dance I was already in tears, and when they kissed I lost it. Such a beautiful build-up, one of my favorite love stories. Breathtaking.

reply

Yep.... I totally cried. Such a good payoff! That was a great kiss!
