Hard to find

It's hard to find a movie when IMDB has it listed under a different title (Escape from Polygamy).

reply

Exactly!! But I'm glad I found it...overall a really good movie! Quite intricate plot lines....and not the outcome I expected, but happy with the ending! I loved the performances by the two leads, Haley Lu Richardson and Jack Falahee. Especially Haley Lu....I look forward to more from her! And good to see Mary McCormick again since In Plain Sight ended.

I know; "Ryder and Julina"?!
So many Lifetime movies are like that.

Thank goodness I was never sent to school; it would have rubbed off some of the originality

It's a take off on Romeo and Juliette - R & J - get it? She appears to be dead, but isn't, he hears that she's dead and for am minute we also think he's dead...

reply

You're telling me there was some silly suicide pact thing?

reply

There wasn't a suicide "pact" in Shakespeare's R&J, despite current day kids romanticizing it and making suicide pacts to emulate R&J. So, no, there was no suicide pact in this movie.

Ok, well and good, but was there any darn suicide ATTEMPT then? Can anyone give me a straight freaking answer about how it ended?

reply

Yes, Julina tries to hang herself, but is discovered and cut down before she dies. Ryder also appears to be dead after being hit in the head, but he comes to in the end as well. So no suicide pact, although Julina did try to kill herself.

*phew* THANK you. But were they ok in other ways? Were they still under the fist of others?

reply

Just saw the end. Excellent!!

reply

There kinda was a suicide pact, with Julina's mom and that woman conspiring to make everyone around them think Julina's dead. As in, an informal pact to fake a suicide that was supposed to be an actual suicide.

That's not even close to a suicide pact. The mom and other woman didn't even know Julina was going to commit suicide... they luckily found her in the nick of time. They DID conspire to trick the prophet into thinking she was dead, but that is certainly not a suicide pact. That decision was made after Julina's attempt.

Another reference to R&J--when they're first in the barn and they kiss and she says "this is a sin." And he says "then let me sin again"--this is a reference to the "sonnet" scene in R&J when they meet at the Capulet party and Romeo says "Sin from my lips? O trespass sweetly urged!/Give me my sin again."

reply

He SERIOUSLY said "Let me sin again"?? Oh Lifetime, grow up.

reply

And SERIOUSLY, there is also a scene where he climbs up to her second story bedroom window :-) (At least I think it was the second story, I did not pay that much attention to the house's architecture.)

reply

Yup, and if I hadn't seen that in a totally unrelated movie recently, I'd be really miffed. Thank goodness it wasn't a deck.

reply

And Ryder's friend is named Micah...kind of like MERCUTIO??? Haha. I love lifetime movies, this one included but this is just too far of an artistic leap to be attempted through such a medium. Just my opinion.

There are often two titles for Lifetime movies. Sometimes a third even. I think that 'Escape From Polygamy' must be Lifetime's international title for this one.
