They will be punished

Even though they may never be put to death by the State, the inmates will carry out their own brand of justice. I just hope they make it hurt.

My brother was in prison for many years and inmates who killed certain types of people were dealt with harshly.

I agree. I am surprised we've lasted this long.

No I have family in prison. Nobody looks up to anybody it's all dog eat dog. With their charges and notoriety, makes them an easier target.

reply

Huh? They are on death row. They are probably locked up 23 or 24 hours a day. They have no access to other people. Or vice versa. That's how I understand it.

they are not on death row anymore

I don't think that statement is correct.

There are still appeals and legal maneuvers taking place.

Until that is all resolved, I believe that the prison officials are making everyone "stay put".

In other words, they are still on death row.

Even if their death sentences are removed, they are still physically housed in the Death Row section.

Also:

This notion that inmates mistreat certain offenders is very over-exaggerated. It's pretty much an urban legend.

Any inmate in fear can always request protective custody. And, those that know they are in trouble, will request that. Also, sometimes the prison officials place certain people on protective custody, on their own, without being asked. And they routinely do this for vulnerable inmates and/or inmates who are targets of other inmates.

The prison officials are held liable if an inmate is hurt/killed by another inmate. So, as a practical matter, the prison system takes pro-active steps to make sure that it doesn't happen.

Anyway, this generally accepted idea that child rapists (and the like) get abused in prison is very much exaggerated and easily prevented.

There are tons of child rapists and pedophiles in prison. Why do we never (or, extremely rarely) hear of them getting murdered by other inmates?

that is an accurate statement. The CT supreme court has ruled the death penalty cruel and unusual punishment per the state constitution. All death row prisoners will have their sentences commuted to life without parole.

What are you referring to when you say that "that is an accurate statement"?

Are you referring to the fact that these murderers are no longer on Death Row?

If so:

That is an accurate statement today (June 2016). It was not, however, an accurate statement back in January 2016, when I posted my original comment.

The Connecticut State Supreme Court did remove all of the Death Row prisoners from Death Row and gave them "life in prison". (No parole, I am assuming?)

But that only happened a few days ago. Perhaps a week or two ago (June 2016).

That was not an accurate statement back in January 2016, when I posted my comments.

Another thought:

Inmates on Death Row have very restrictive living arrangements. The prison officials place a lot of restrictions and constraints upon them.

If they choose to do so, the prison officials can impose these same exact restrictions on inmates that are "life sentence with no chance of parole".

So, whether or not the inmate has a death sentence can be completely inconsequential.

The prison can choose to monitor and treat "life sentence prisoners" in the same exact way that they treat Death Row prisoners.
