Anyone know where this was shot ?

That's an awfully big castle to just be a film set.
And it's too historically maintained to be a tourist trap.

The castle exists:

It is filmed at Burg Kreuzenstein, just 20 min outside of Vienna. On this site there was a castle from the 12 century which was destroyed in the 30-years war. In the late 19th century a newly-rich count rebuilt it as an "idealized version" of a middle aged castle out of "original" ruins he bought from all over Europe.

It is the destination of a school trip of nearly every Viennese pupil but was also used for several movies and TV shows. Better use google translate on http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Burg_Kreuzenstein then the very short English Version of the article.

The castle is not connected to the underground lake however, which was shown in episode 1. That part was filmed in the "Seegrotte Hinterbrühl", their HP describes it as: "The tourist mine Seegrotte Hinterbrühl is a former gypsum mine close by Vienna with mystic drifts, a mining- and Saint Barbaramuseum, and the largest underground lake in Europe." http://www.seegrotte.com/en/

ABC spent a lot of money on this but the ratings is no good. Just like Utopia on Fox. It is hard to find new shows that can be instant hit. Considering this has almost perfect cast. Almost all men are gorgeous and women are beautiful. Still it can't connect to viewers. What can networks do?
