The Fraudulent One True Hero (SPOILER)

Lina made it to the final round only because Andrew voted for her because of a friendship alliance, not because she was the best. Yes, she had her moments, but the only Paladin who demonstrated honor, truth, strength and courage was Shondo. He should have been the one, and as soon as he lost the chain challenge I lost interest in the show. The second best choice was Patrick, and the reason he lost was because of Andrew's stupid politics. If Andrew were serious about saving Everealm, he would have realized that Patrick was superior in more categories than Lina and stood with Shondo to ensure that Patrick moved on to the next round. I'm glad that Andrew didn't win (karma) and even though Lina wasn't my first (or last) choice to be the One True Hero, part of me is glad a girl won in the end. I only wish that that girl would have won the prize because she was indeed the best of them all instead of being saved from banishment because of secret alliances.

Absolutely agreed. If Shondo hadn't lost it on the scale challenge, I think he would have won.

Andrew ONLY picked Lina because he said he'd stand behind her no matter what. That's not conducive to picking the One True Hero, that's personal politics and friendship alliances. Andrew (just like Christian) was playing it like it was Survivor instead of doing what was best for the kingdom. As far as Shondo losing, absolutely it was on him and it was sad to see him go out like that. But throughout the entire series, he voted with honesty and with honor instead of going with the group consensus or because he had a "watch my back and I'll watch yours" agreement with other Paladins.

Not sure if you're trolling or just don't understand what I'm trying to explain, so I'll give it one more shot.

Andrew didn't vote for Lina because she was the "best hero" with all the necessary attributes. He voted for her because of a personal promise to back her no matter what, even though Patrick was the better choice. Andrew played politics instead of acting like a true paladin and casting his vote for what's best for the realm. Keeping in the theme of the show, any true paladin would give his or her life to see that the best warrior makes it to the end. Andrew did not do that, and the only reason -the ONLY reason- that Lina made it through was because of Andrew's friendship pledge. Yes, she managed to hit the bullseye and become the One True Champion, but only because of Andrew cast his vote. I'm not saying that Lina was a worthless competitor, but she was hardly the best pick duet to the fact that she found herself in the Fate's Challenge too often.

If you really need me to explain this to you again, you're gonna be out of luck. Best.

Sorry, but I have to agree with the other poster. Patrick had also found himself in the Fates Challenges several times. Lina had been saved more often, but had earned two "Mark" badges, while Patrick had earned one. Whether he or Lina faced Andrew and Shondo in the final episode, you would've had an underdog facing off against the top two competitors. If Andrew had saved Patrick, and Patrick went on to win, one could make the same argument and state that Patrick only won because he had been saved and hadn't really earned it. Shondo may have been your favorite, and understandably so, but he blew it in the final episode and was the first of the final three to be eliminated.

I'm not a Patrick fan but at least he saved himself from 2 Fates challenges and and Lina has been in 4 or 5 Fates challenges and has saved herself exactly zero times. She managed to stay as long as she did strictly on alliances, game playing and being considered weak. Hell even that weakling Bonnie saved herself in 2 Fates challenges so I think that says a lot about Lina. As for the badges, if that were the deciding factor then Andrew would have been the one true hero. Besides, IMHO I think Lina got the second badge because Shondo lobbied for her during the barricade challenge. As much as I can't stand Andrew it really should have gone to him becaue he was the leader in the challenge and really took charge.

I laughed when Lina acted like she deserved and always knew she was the winner, she was up to get kicked off the show 4 or 5 times, never saved herself in any of the challenges, hung on by chance cuz people considering her a negligible threat... she shot like 50 arrows before she hitting the target to lower the bridge - then she's all like 'yeah I always knew I'm the best and that I totally deserve winning everything the whole time', it's like watching a cartoon character.

I agree about the Lina and the Marks but Bonnie was no weakling. She and Jim were the 2 paladins who had the heat of the Hero. She was in no way weak.

reply

How was Bonnie not a weakling when she landed in the bottom 4 times and couldn't even complete several of the challenges(door/potion making challenge, the cage fates challenge, the ogre challenge) or she flat out bombed in others like the archery challenge or the flag raising challenge. Bonnie was nice and she made decent songs but this whole spiel about her having "heart" or the "heart of a hero" was only perpetuated because there was no other superlative or adjective to describe her ineptitude. When it all came down to it she played the game as selfishly as the others and admittedly saved people becaue she thought it would better her game, that is not heroic. Again, Shondo was the ONLY Palladin who choose the way he did each week becaue he thought the person deserved it and earned their place. He never let fear *cough*Andrew*cough* or strategy (everyone else except Jasmine) be his deciding factor. He always picked who he thought was the strongest and what was best for Everealm.

Remember what Shondo said about Lina becoming the One True Hero? He said it didn't matter how many Judgments Lina faced, because when the lights came on and shone brightly, she performed. He called her a beast, and he wasn't comparing her to an ogre.

Lina was in the final because her peers put her there. The Judgments are integral to the One True Hero selection process. Andrew pulled a Christian in the last Judgment. He knew it, and Lina knew it. Andrew was the last person to move Lina through...and he lost to her. Convincingly. Oops.

Lina made it to the final round only because Andrew voted for her because of a friendship alliance

Seems he wanted to project that. To make himself appear more honorable. Better to vote for her out of loyalty than to admit the real reason (which I thought he confessed in some manner anyway) - he took the easy way out and chose the competitor he thought he could dominate. He knew Patrick could beat him. So he chose who he imagined would be the less worthy opponent. Which ended up sealing his fate. Maybe he was so unfocused and panicked during the challenges because he was battling his inner demons about it.

I'm confused. You say Patrick should have been at the final with Andrew and Shondo yet disparage "secret alliances." First of all, Lina did better than Patrick in the Fates challenge (crossing the makeshift bridge) by a large margin. Secondly, Patrick blatantly lied about how well Lina did in the egg raising challenge to try and save Bonnie, his "secret alliance" you're so against. So tell me, how is it that Patrick deserved to be in the finals more than Lina again?

At the end of the day, she smoked Shondo and Andrew in the final (who were both gracious in defeat) and became the one true hero. Haters Gon' Hate.

reply

Being smart, maintain composure under pressure and able to win the trust of those around them are also characteristics of the True hero. Unlike Lina, those were qualities that Shondo lacked.

reply

Screw it, I'm just happy that the thick necked, annoying Andrew didn't win! He and Christian were the two most annoying people on the show, hands down. I looked up the winner before skipping from episode 3 to 10( I was so pissed when they voted for Christian after telling him that he was gone if he failed the next challenge, i gave up on the show), just to make sure I wasn't wasting my time. Shondo or Lina, I didn't care who won as long as it wasn't Andrew.

I don't understand all the griping on this board about Lina. Did the rules actually say they had to pick whoever was the strongest to proceed? Of course people will pick based on alliances and strategic considerations. They're only human and it's all fair game.

Did viewers think that the contestants literally believed they were fighting an evil warlord for the sake of humanity and therefore had to pick the very best to proceed?

I wish ABC had kept this. Summer TV gets worse and worse every year. There are nothing watchable this summer except old BB and The Bachelorette. All new dramas are joke.
