Now getting a wide theatrical release under it's original title in 2017

We're going to have to wait a little longer to see it but this is still awesome!

Dimension Sells Off Mandy Moore Shark Thriller '47 Meters Down' to Byron Allen

The move comes as the financially strapped Weinstein brothers have begun to sell off some of their films.
Byron Allen's Entertainment Studios has acquired North American rights to the Mandy Moore shark thriller 47 Meters Down, which it will distribute on 2,500-plus screens through its recently purchased theatrical distribution company Freestyle Releasing.

Entertainment Studios bought the finished film for seven figures from Dimension.

The story revolves around two adventure-seeking sisters who go cage-diving while on vacation in Mexico. Much to their horror, the cage breaks away from the boat, leaving the pair in an observation cage trapped at the bottom of the ocean, surrounded by hungry Great White sharks. The key to their survival — with very little time and very little oxygen in their tanks — is to try and swim 47 meters to the surface while being hunted by the sharks.

Claire Holt (The Vampire Diaries) and Matthew Modine also star in the film directed by Johannes Roberts.

Mark Lane and James Harris produced 47 Meters Down, with Bob and Harvey Weinstein serving as executive producers.

The move comes as the financially strapped Weinstein brothers have begun to sell off some of their films.

“Dimension Films has delivered us a terrific movie,” Allen said. “We have paid a premium for 47 Meters Down because we really believe in the genre, and in the film.”

Added Dimension's Matthew Singer: "We love this film and support the filmmakers. We even contributed additional funds to enhance the picture. Our original plan was to release the film before The Shallows, but since that couldn't happen, we decided to go with a more conservative release strategy that would take place this summer. When the producers brought us Entertainment Studios, who will release the movie wide next year, we all agreed this would be the best option for everyone involved and were happy to make a deal. We wish Entertainment Studios the best of luck and couldn't be happier for the filmmakers."

Entertainment Studios currently has a multi-year output deal with Netflix and also recently closed a multi-year home entertainment output deal with Anchor Bay/Starz and aims to distribute 100 motion pictures over the next five years.

47 Meters Down marks the second acquisition by Entertainment Studios, following the horror/suspense movie Friend Request, which is scheduled for release on 2,500-plus screens on Oct. 7.

"We loved working with Bob, Matt and Keith at Dimension," said Lane and Harris. "They stepped up creatively and financially to improve the film tremendously and we are grateful to them for allowing us this opportunity. We are discussing a few projects and hope to work together in the near future."

Im sure it will pop up on the net soon. Dvd copies are already floating around.

Yeah, this pretty much seals the flop. They're In the Heart Of the Sea-ing themselves hard.

They are eating the guests, sir.

reply

Lol no. Movies leak online all the time and it hardly ever impacts the box office to the extent that they're unable to be profitable films. The board has virtually no activity aside from my posts and the marketing campaign hadn't started yet, so I don't know think there's even a large viewer awareness for the film yet. It also helps that it'll be promoted under a different title.

I just saw it online but will definitely go see it in the theaters if/when it comes out. A very good thrill ride that deserves the big screen. I fully understand your viewpoint but movies like this can gain a much larger audience/buzz from a large group of people watching it in advance (illegally). I've already told 4 of my friends about this movie, which I often don't do. If it was in the theaters right now, they would most likely take their families based on my 1 recommendation. I'm sure I'll tell others in the weeks to come.

You can download it via torrent ;-)

Why don't you contact your lawyer, you pathetic little bitch lol 

They should have been more brave and really pushed for an initial release because I've seen it as of last night, it's on the Amazon Firestick, and I definitely plan to put people on. By next year, this will already have indie buzz. It's such a strong film.

This is good news. I wish they'd use the title In the Deep instead though.

Another thread says its on YouTube ! Why the hell is it on YouTube if they want to release it in cinemas ? How the hell did this get past YouTube's parameters ? Idiots. That's what they get for releasing it on DVD. I brought it on DVD in Wal-Mart on the day it came out. There were plenty available this summer. It's also on eBay for about $40 for the DVD. Somebody really screwed up. Oh, well. Great DVD. I wish it was Blu Ray, but I'll upgrade when it finally comes out.
